Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications Matt November 11, 2024Nov 11
Posted March 8Mar 8 Hello,.I just realised that emails sent from the cloud have noreply@invisioncloudcommunity.com in the from: field. How do I change that? By setting up the SMTP server? Also, if the SMTP server is used, will the bulk email work properly? My email is under Google Business. How many emails are sent per minute? When using the cloud's setting, I see it's being sent maybe in chunks of 100 or similar, but I don't know how many or every how long the emails are sent after all as sent. Thanks a lot
March 9Mar 9 Author I'm using Google Workspace. I've configured the SMTP settings as explained in Google.Adding the SMTP hostSSL SMTP Protocol with SMPT Port 465Entered my username and password. These settings worked on OutlookHowever, when I add them in ACP, I will always get an error and the test email will not be sent. When I visit the URL specified in the error and find the SMTP settings, they are the ones I entered. They talk about using the SMTP Relay settings in Google Workspace. I added the SMTP relay serevice too as you can see in the screenshot below, but the test email won't be sent and I will get the exact same error. My username and passwords are correctly configured, I triple check it, I even logged out of my gmail account and cleaned cookies, entered them manually and it works. However, I cannot configure the SMTP in ACP because I will get this error over and over.535-5.7.8 Username and Password not accepted. For more information, go to 535 5.7.8 https://support.google.com/mail/?p=BadCredentials ffacd0b85a97d-3912bfdfe2bsm11019239f8f.24 - gsmtp Can anyone help and tell me how to configure my gmail workspace account in ACP to avoid having the from: noreply@invisioncloudcommunity.com email? Thanks
March 9Mar 9 This option isn't available on Gmail any more:https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/6010255?hl=enI'd personally just keep using the invision method, it uses your forum name as the name the user sees, the sender address is fairly irrelevant and most people won't ever see it. ThanksHowever, isn't Invision going to find a solution for this? Is that possible? We're talking about Google Mail, the number 1 email service in the world. Thanks. Also, if this feature isn't supported yet. Shouldn't the warning message be completely different? Because ACP redirects me to a general URL ini Google where you have to spend a lot of time looking for. And it seems that Invision knows it's not suported. Shouldn't ACP give a completely different error message, like... "Google is not supporting this feature. Sorry." Edited March 9Mar 9 by michimachi
March 9Mar 9 Author Is this only a limitation for Google Workspace accounts or can a classic normal Gmail account be added?

Thanks.Google changed their authentication scheme to something which is not currently supported and frankly, a bit abnormal for software-based SMTP sending but hey, we do like that it is more secure 😊. We're investigating it but can't provide any info at the moment. If you want to use your own domain, at the moment, you will need to use another SMTP service.
