Posted February 14Feb 14 Hello everyone,I'm looking to implement a subscription system using IP.Commerce, and I've come across both the "Subscriptions" feature and the option to use "Products" for this purpose. I'm a bit confused about which approach would be best for my needs.Could anyone provide guidance on the differences between using "Subscriptions" and setting up subscriptions through "Products"? What are the pros and cons of each method? Additionally, any tips on best practices for managing subscriptions effectively would be greatly appreciated.Thank you in advance for your help!
February 14Feb 14 Subscriptions is essentially a product, but with cut down options specifically geared at the purpose of subscriptions, with its own subscriptions page rather than showing in the store. What best fits your need, depends on your needs. If you can elaborate on those, we can certainly advise on the best approach for you
February 14Feb 14 Author Thanks for the input Marc! I need a subscription model to let members access spoecific forums, downloads, etc. Whats the best approch ?
February 14Feb 14 OK, so I would use the subscription system. You can assign a group on purchase, and from that group, you can of course then add any permissions you wanted to add for that purchaser
February 14Feb 14 Author Thanks! How to show subscritions options to members ? I'd seen that if its products based it will show in registration process ?
February 14Feb 14 You can also show in the registration process for subscriptions if you wish to do so. Click settings on the subscription plans page.If not a mandatory thing, you could add a link via the menu manager if you wanted. They also show up when a user selects their name in the top right
February 14Feb 14 Author I am trying Products as it integret in registration process, any way to limit purchasing to one subsrioption ?

February 14Feb 14 Subscriptions can also be configured to integrate with the registration system, if configured to do so.
February 14Feb 14 Author Thanks @Esther E. that what i was looking for, what about existing members how to "force" them to purchase a subscription to continue using forum ? And, also, how to show subs on pages where users cant access ? for example if i restrict IP downloads for a specific group how to show plans there ?
February 14Feb 14 The only way you could force existing users, would be to remove access from the groups, and probably add a link to say a subscription needs to be purchased, to the permissions screen
February 18Feb 18 Author Hello!I add membership to registration process so users need to select a plan, i am suprised that using social login is bypassing the process, i dont know if its a bug, i selected "Always" in Require Subscription Purchase option. I can see that the other option "When registering a new account." contain social login. If i choose this then normal registration will not include the plans selection .. How to resolve this please ?
February 18Feb 18 Author Sorry for this confusion, seems to work now with both when using "When registering a new account.", for social and also for normal registration.
February 18Feb 18 Author Sorry, its not working i made a mistake, lot of users are using social login to create new account and avoid memberships !
February 18Feb 18 If you are looking to enforce membership, you would need to switch those off. You cant enforce membership with social sign in, as its actually against the terms of most of them.
