After the first attempt to upgrade from 4.7.20 to 5.0 on a live site, what I noticed:

1. The upgrade went smoothly and without any issues.

2. I created a new home page for which I had pre-prepared blocks - it works perfectly.

3. Reason for this topic - I have multiple pages with databases, some are public, others are specialized for team use only. None of these pages in version 5.0 are functional - they are not displayed in the front end.

All categories and articles are available in ACP.

For more than 3 hours I tried to get a working page from the ones created in version 4.x - without success.

A newly created page with a database in version 5.0 works perfectly.

Since my pages are important to me and my business - I used a backup and restored 4.7.20 so that my live site could function correctly.

My question is: What pre-preparation of app pages in v4.7.20 should I do to have functionality for all my database pages in v5.0?

Thanks.

We would need to see on v5 to see whats happened. Its not possible to say what the issue was without investigation

When you say "not displayed", do you mean you're getting a white screen? Is there anything in your server error logs (not the IPS logs)?

I can't show it to you in version 5.0 - because I restored 4.7.20.

No, a page opens with a sidebar, but in the article field there is only a background, i.e. it seems like this page is empty.

First step: check the assigned templates in the database settings for each database and switch the 4.x templates to one of the new 5.x templates.

This.

Also check your system logs to see if there are any errors there.

I tried this - I changed all available settings for the database, and for the page - no change occurred, including after each change I tried clearing the cache.

Most of my pages are created with the Supergrid plugin, so I tried changing templates, but to no avail.

In fact, Supergrid template group in version 5.0 work correctly - here's an example from my test site.

What strikes me about the Pages app from v.5.0 is that there is no "Content" area in the Pages settings with database - where in version 4.x the database ID is contained.

In version 5, a database is created and a page name is specified - and it works correctly.

Maybe the page loses connectivity to its database during the upgrade... It only exists in the list of pages with its database...

If you can show us once you upgrade again what page is not working as an example, we can then advise accordingly

Version 5 does not support manual HTML pages for databases. They should have been converted to builder pages with a Raw HTML block during the upgrade (assuming that all background tasks completed).

Yes, most of my pages are manual HTML. They were probably converted during the update and that broke the database connection.

How can I convert them beforehand?

Pages: What changed between IC4...
No image preview

Pages: What changed between IC4 and IC5

There are a lot of changes between Invision Community 4 and 5. IPS has announced significant changes on their blog, but there are also changes that are so far unannounced and undocumented. Here is...

How does the manual HTML look like? Something complex or just these old manual database calls?

You could delete the page and create a Page Builder page instead, but I think that shouldn’t be necessary. I would think that IPS should be able to detect and deal with this scenario to convert it automatically.

I'm not sure why that would break the database. We do convert them.

The Pages app has a bug when I edit and assign a template to the database. The database does not use the assigned template. I found a workaround and ignored it.

By chance, do you have a template setup for the category or sub-category in your database?

The same.

Only for page manual HTML, in Manage block (v.4.x) have this block:

Screenshot at 2025-02-05 22:07:56.png

When a database is created without a fixed page, it is possible with this block to select a database from a list and add it to a page.

In the page builder, even in version 4.x, this block is not available, i.e. it is not possible to insert a database because there is no such block.

Therefore, when updating, after the pages are converted, no content is visible. And in the page management, there is no way to find the necessary database.

Here is the content in the Page editor in v.5

I'm sure you convert this, but I'm also sure that after conversion, the pages don't function.

Downloading a page database from v.4.x and uploading to v.5.0 works perfectly, but as described without records.

Is there an option to include records in this download?

No, there is no option to include records in a database download

When downloading and subsequently uploading to version 5, the categories and even the images I added in the description field of the categories are clearly visible on the page - they look exactly as they do in version 4.x.

When upgrading to 5.0 - there is nothing on the pages - I only see them in the ACP and there is no way for them to appear in the front end.

I.e. think about a patch with which records can also be included in downloading a database page.

Apparently, a manual move will ensure normal functioning, but for now the conversion that, as was said, you are doing is incorrect and given that I cannot have all the records from my pages, an upgrade to 5.0 for me loses all meaning...

I was using custom template for the category front index and records display, the other two sections I use the default templates.

PS. For compare example

v.4.7.20

v. 5.0.0 - test site

Could you ensure access details are up to date for that test site?

I decided to follow the advice of opentype In a little while I will finish editing all my pages on the builder mode.

After that I will make a second attempt to upgrade to 5.0 and report if there is a change.

Please wait for your intervention.
