I have a very old Invision forum that was idle, now I want to create a new forum, but take the old content to this new forum in a new url, how can I do this?

What version are we walking here? To do anything with the content/data, you would need to upgrade said content/data.

I don't remember the version that came out, but it was 4.2 to 5.0.2, of course it broke my entire forum, but I want to change the url and take the data together

Could you please be more specific? Looking at your community, the data has transferred. Keep in mind that version 4 to 5 is a MAJOR upgrade. Version 4 customizations will not work on version 5 and need to be upgraded by their respective authors.

You can change the url of your forum from the Client Area. Or did you mean you want the contents of the old forum transferred to a new domain? If the latter is the case, the best way to go about it imo is to install the latest current stable version in the new domain, then restore the database of the previous forum and then run the upgrader to bring the database en par with the forum files.

What you would be best doing there, is to update your site to the latest version of 4, then update to 5

A word of advice, if I may, it would be best to upgrade to the latest stable version, 4.7.20 for the moment. Version 5 is still in Beta stage and as asuch it's not recommended to be used on live sites.

I moved my files and database to the new domain, then upgraded, but I just can't get my files and forums to stay

I am not sure that I understand what you mean by that. Can you please give us some more details in what way can't you get your files and forums to stay?

What version is the freshly installed forum? If the database backup is of the same version, then all you have to do is to restore it in the dataabse of the newly installed forum. If the database backup is of an older version instead, then after you restore it then you must run the upgrade to bring it up to date so it matches the forum files.

Something to keep in mind, you might run into issues with third party stuff if they are enabled when the backup was made. That is because their files will not be present in their locations. The same goes with the attachments.

Is this domain transfer in the same server or are we talking about different servers. Remember, the more details you give us the better. i.e. help us to help you.
