Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications Matt November 11, 2024Nov 11
Posted January 29Jan 29 I've been experiencing really high server loads this week and my webhost seems to think the problem is bots using the search function and suggested that I disable the search for guests. I can't find anything in the back end to do that, so I'm wondering is this possible and also, does this sound like something that would likely be taking my site down to the high load? Thanks.

By default it's set to disabled btw. If that's not the case in your Admin Panel, tick the options for Guests and save the changes.
January 29Jan 29 Solution Disable the permission for guests to use the Search module in ACP of the System application:EDIT:Looks like I had the tab open for a few minutes, but I never got the usual notification that there were new replies and the link to load them. It might be a v5 bug. 🤔 Edited January 29Jan 29 by teraßyte
January 29Jan 29 Author @Miss_BI've just checked and it was disabled under the search log tab. I just assumed that meant that searches were not logged, not that guests couldn't search.I have just attempted a search while logged out and it let me do it, so guests can definitely search even when search log tab is disabled.7 minutes ago, teraßyte said:Disable the permission for guests to use the Search module in ACP of the System application:EDIT:Looks like I had the tab open for a few minutes, but I never got the usual notification that there were new replies and the link to load them.
