Hello,

I recently updated my Invision Power Board forum to the latest version, and I’ve encountered an issue with text encoding. When I copy and paste text into posts, it displays incorrectly with strange characters, such as “é” instead of “é” and “— instead of an apostrophe.

Here’s an example of how it looks:

“Les “meme coins†comme MAGA sont souvent sujets à une volatilité élevée…”

This issue didn’t occur before the update. It seems like the forum is not handling special characters properly anymore.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a specific setting I need to adjust, or could this be a bug in the new version? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Sorry, we do not provide support for version 3 upgrades. This typically happens due to the database was not in the correct collation during UTF8 conversion. You will need to work with a third party provider to help resolve your database issues: https://invisioncommunity.com/third-party/providers-directory/

Did you export/import the database at some point? Or is that from a direct upgrade without moving the database somewhere else? 🤔

You will need to change the collation to utf-8 for the database.

Hello, thank you for your quick response. However, I am not using version 3 at all. I updated from v4.7.18 to Invision Community v4.7.19. Just before the update, everything was working perfectly.

Hi, thank you very much for your response. No, I just updated from v4.7.18 to v4.7.19, I didnâ€t make any changes to the database.

(I just noticed that it’s doing exactly the same thing here.)

EDIT: Ah! I just noticed something.

It only happens when I copy and paste directly from ChatGPT to the forum.

If I go from ChatGPT => Notes => the forum, then it works.

However, this issue didn’t exist in version 4.7.18.

There were no code changes related to the editor between version 4.7.18 and 4.7.19. I assume something changed on ChatGPT’s side instead. 🙄

A browser and/or extension update could also be the cause. Does it still happen if you use other browsers?
