Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications Matt November 11, 2024Nov 11
Posted January 20Jan 20 One member reporting this problem: Only for the past 24 hours or so, he has had to sign in again every time he reopens his browser, even though he's checked "Remember Me". He's deleted his cookies and the problem remains. He can reproduce this problem with Safari, FireFox and Chrome, so it doesn't seem to be browser related.

No changes. If the issue is local, what could it be when it's happening on 3 different browsers, even after deleting the cookies?

If its only happening to that one user, the likelyhood is that its the users end. However the simplest way to check is to change their password yourself, then log in manually with their account and see if you can see it happening. I suspect you wont
January 20Jan 20 Author Thanks Marc. I changed his password, opened a new browser and logged in, and everything worked as expected for me. I talked with him and he’s saying that he’s not using any VPN, No firewall, and can reproduce the issue on two different computers running 3 different browser, so the issue is with the 6 combinations of computer+browser. Moreover he had always been permanently logged in for my site for months and the issue started only 24 hours ago or so. He’s also permanently logged in in many other online communities and only my site is giving him the issue.I don’t know how to further help them.
January 20Jan 20 Sounds like there is something being omitted from the conversation there most likely. Not so much saying it will have been on purpose, but more something being missed that is in common, other than the user themselves
January 20Jan 20 Author I looked at the log and found the following repeated log entry, may this be related?

January 20Jan 20 Author Ok thanks Daniel. Still trying to help that user… he says that the issue was seemingly solved after I had changed his password and he logged in again, and now it’s come back. Also when he clicks the notification bell, he gets an endless wheel scrolling and the notifications are never displayed.
January 20Jan 20 Is the user using Incognito mode or have it set to delete browser cookies on close? That would explain not having the cookie there when reopening the browser.

He does not have this issue with other communities he visits, only my site. Also he reported that he looked at a private message, then went to the home page and at that point he was signed out. He was able to reproduce this last issue on two different browsers, Chrome and Safari.
January 20Jan 20 Just now, David N. said:Just found out he’s using an anti-virus… could that be the issue? If it impacts his browser, yes. I would suggest disabling it to test.

January 20Jan 20 Lots of antivirus install browser extensions nowadays. Maybe that’s what clears his cookies after the browser is closed. Edited January 20Jan 20 by teraßyte typo

January 20Jan 20 5 minutes ago, David N. said:But then it wouldn’t clear the cookies only for my site and not the others? It depends on the software. Cookies are specific to a domain. The software could absolutely clear cookies for one site, but not another.
January 20Jan 20 Author Ok so he tried with all browser extensions disabled and the antivirus disabled and still experiences the issues. Is there anything else I can do on my end to try to help him out?
January 20Jan 20 7 minutes ago, David N. said:Is there anything else I can do on my end to try to help him out? There’s really nothing, outside of the user’s computer, which is causing this. So it is a matter of the user finding out what exactly it is.

January 20Jan 20 Are all his browsers up to date ?Have you told him to delete cookies and wait 5 minutes before trying to log in again ?Also, is he using the ‘remember me’ check box ? tell him to log in without using it. Edited January 20Jan 20 by harry m added last line of info
January 20Jan 20 I do get this from time to time when logged in on my computer and attempt to log in on my phone, for example. Logging in is successful, but any page I visit afterwards is as if I am logged out. I haven’t investigated the issue, but when I log out of my computer, wait a few minutes and log back in on my phone, all is well.I haven’t had the issue of logging in every time I open my browser though.
February 3Feb 3 I have had two members report this condition in the last week. Apple devices are the common denominator.
February 3Feb 3 Author In my case the user reported that they were using Bitdefender, and that even after disabling bitdefender the issue persisted, but ended up going away after a while. That does seem to point out to Bitdefender along with some kind of cache or cookies needing to be cleared until the issue was resolved for him.
February 5Feb 5 @David N. Just trying to figure out the issue here... Do you have a landing page other than the Forums?
