Would this have anything to do with some topics being years old? Does the algorithm think the thousands of views and reacts makes it a popular thread, so the Hot label as added after just a single new post is added to it? Although there are multiple other threads in that screenshot that were just recently made.

I presume that v5 works in the same way as this, as long as the community is being cloud-hosted?

The recency of the actions on the content would be brought into play in making it "hot."

Correct.

In the meantime, I'm going to have to turn this feature off completely.

We've had about 20 posts in the forum over the past 3 hours and the forum is just filled with Hot labels, and members are complaining that it's distracting on mobile.

That's what I had to do. The way it currently functions, is basically broken. It's too bad too, we really enjoyed the way it used to work.
