I upgraded yesterday to the latest greatest and now every time a thread is posted to, the "Hot! "x" replies" button is displayed. I originally thought that maybe it was a plugin or app that was causing the issue so I disabled them all and when it persisted, I thought to check my other website that has none of the same apps, plugins and sure enough, it is happening there as well.

I should also mention that I tried turning it off completely in the ACP, and, again, it persists. Wasn't there once a setting where you could stipulate how many posts determined whether or not it was popular?

Right, there were changes (as detailed in the change log). In 4.7.18 this feature didn't work for you because it relied on Trending data that wasn't available for your legacy plan. In 4

  • Thanks, I just noticed a few issues while testing this, which I have reported to our bug tracker.

  • We have made an adjustment for the next release, so when one disables it, the hot badge will disappear immediately

Yes, as mentioned this is resolved.

We are currently updated to 4.7.20 and ran into this issue, so how do we resolve it?

As Sharona mentioned earlier in this thread, some of the options for 'popular' posts was removed awhile ago, so we can no longer choose how many posts a thread must get in a certain period of time, for it to be deemed popular/hot.

What should my settings look like and how do I determine what is a 'trending topic'?

Popular now on Cloud will be different than Popular Now on self-hosted. As self-hosted has the old Popular Now feature:

Whereas, Cloud will have the trending content version of popular now where our Cloud algorithm will help determine factors which is making that content trending in the particular timeframe provided.

Okay. I'm on cloud. What does that mean? Is it fixed or still broken?

How do I prevent every single topic from getting the 'hot' label whenever a new post is made in the thread? From reading this thread, it sounds like the trending data is not available to legacy users, so how do we determine when a topic is considered to be 'hot' or not?

And yes, I am aware that the thread needs to be more than 3 hours old and have more than 3 posts, otherwise it will not be affected. That info doesn't help solve this issue. Every single one of our threads eventually ends up being more than 3 hours old and receives more than 3 posts.

The previous way was much better and an option should be given.

It is not broken, it is a different way to calculate it. As seen here:

With Cloud plans it works a little differently. It uses Trending data to determine when something is popular. Trending data uses many more variables than just the number of replies such as the number of reactions, number of views etc.

This is clearly not working as intended. I've had a website with you guys since 2015 and this is the first time that this is happening.

Yes this works differently to how it did previously, and takes into account much more than just posts. So you wouldnt be expecting it to look the same as it did before

Can you just please give me a straight answer?

Is this working as intended?

Does your team intend for every single thread to be labeled as Hot going forward?

Just so you are aware, almost every single thread in that screenshot had a single post added to it for it to receive the Hot label. There were NOT a bunch of posts made over a short period of time in any of them.

In the meantime, I'm going to have to turn this feature off completely.

We've had about 20 posts in the forum over the past 3 hours and the forum is just filled with Hot labels, and members are complaining that it's distracting on mobile.

That's what I had to do. The way it currently functions, is basically broken. It's too bad too, we really enjoyed the way it used to work.
