Como
Hi. I'm trying to understand why my IP address was banned from my Invision hosted website a couple of hours ago. The account is not banned, nor did I ban the IP address. I could gain access via a VPN, which is far from ideal (less reliable and slow). I could access the AdminCP without using the VPN. I also note that I could access here without the VPN. Eventually, I found that the ban was set by the API (stated as the 'Reason') - I deleted the entry and access was restored. But I remain puzzled by this. Will it happen again? I was testing a chat room at the time (the ban affected that too), but the chat room operates remotely (and integrates into the website) - it collects just enough information via the API to make it work using our membership list. I'd be astonished if the ban originated at the chat room and triggered a ban at my site. Besides, I can now again use the chat room, so, despite the chat room making use of the API, it seems certain that the ban at both places was triggered by my website. Thanks. Solution Daniel F Posted September 28 Solution Share Posted September 28 It could have been banned if you made too many requests to the IPS API with a wrong key! SeNioR-
Como
Ah. That might explain it, @Daniel F. Unbeknownst to me, the key was changed. Maybe there was some kind of overlap - thought I did not notice occurring and my updating the key. I was running two accounts for testing - maybe there was some kind of overlap. Thanks. Como
Hi. It has just happened again. I was again testing the chat room, and have been off and on over the past week. Again, I was banned, reason, 'API'. This time, though, the API had not been updated - it still matches at both ends. @Nathan Explosion If you happen to read this - and are scratching your head - I was narrowing down the source of bugs, so switched to using the old code (with its API key) to rule out your code as the cause (it isn't). Como
PS There was another banned IP address - same API reason. There are only a very limited number of users with access to the chat room, and the IP address did not match any account. It was added on September 30th, two days are after my IP address was last banned. I deleted that ban entry too. I'll copy the IP address to you by PM, just in case it is any use.
