The system will intentionally time out on the admin CP, for security reasons. Im not sure what you mean on adding your IP in the admin CP. Please could you clarify? With regard your topics, you can click on "My Activity Streams" and click "My Content", or if you wish to be more specific about areas, you can click to create your own custom activity stream on that same menu.
