very new to this, attempting to set up instore payments for digital purchases. im attempting to set up stripe but that is a complicated setup! is there another program to use thats within the store that i should or could use that doesnt require someone to go to an external site?

You would need to set up an external payment processor if you wish to take payments. The only other option is manual, in which you can tell people how you want them to pay you, and then mark them paid manually when you receive funds

i attempted to use stripe but is there a popular payment process for when they buy the product and the payment is confirmed they get the online product? 

Stripe and paypal are the most popular. Either way however, you would need to set those up. You may find the commerce guides helpful in our guides here
