Creating first blog posts all gave errors

So far using IPB has been a series of errors, need help, or advice if this software package is not capable to support a sight as a blogging platform

"Class x not found" would indicate that you're missing a file on your server or that something is out of date that is attempting to access a class which is no longer present.

Please try going to the client area and downloading a full set of files then extracting these to your local computer. Then please upload the contents of "ips_****" folder to your server, overwriting what is there.

Are you having any failures with your FTP or have it set to not overwrite existing files?

Are permissions on your server set correctly? If they are not, it could cause files to not be accessible.

So still busted, I have uploaded at least 5 tiimes since last night, even to the point that I installed CUTE FTP licensed rather than using  an open source ftp client, uploaded the entire package again, and this is still busted, the good news is that each time I upload I get new and different errors

This latest error is an issue with your PHP build, it appears to be missing some integral functions that are part of PHP and required for many PHP projects.

You should let your web host know about this so they can correct the issue.

SQL is not the problem

I am guessing that the buck is being passed and that no real support will be offered now, good one ya got my money, nothing left for you to do here, I am guessing this is fabricated to sell more cloud hosting from you guys

The issue appears to be with PHP, not MySQL.

The error log you provided clear shows that the 'default' required ctype_* functions are missing on your server. Your screenshot does also indicate that there are further things missing from your PHP version. The 'phar' extension for example (whilst not required for the software to work) is needed for installing 3rd party applications (whether from the Marketplace or ones you upload).

If you have other Invision Community installs working without issue on the server, it may be that they are using a different PHP version that does not have these extensions and functionality missing.

Here is the thing, I decided to use this software for a simple blog site for my wife, I thought hej IPB will be a good answer rather than going with a Open Source option, or with google. All I want is a simple blog site, and as demonstrated willing to pay for it, because paying for it comes with top level support, so now several days in, I have a non functioning site, and no real support, been told to reinstall, and then told that my sql server is not capable even though IPB reports database is compatible. If Invision Community is unable or unwilling to support this product that I have several other installations running on the same server with same SQL server just let me know, we can work out a refund and move along, just let me know how to move forward

the missing extensions I had enabled on the server today, but also the software these are not critical but advised additions, TELL ME WHAT IS MISSING, not extensions for 3rd party apps, I need help here not an open ended statement that you SQL server is busted

the c-type extension has now been enabled, please tell why this is not a guideline, why does the self diagnosis not report this, why do other version work without the additional tweaks

that's why it's good to have your own dedicated server it seems that the blog application needs several php functions that shared hosting does not have simply tell invisioncommunity support which part is necessary to install on your shared server so that you can report that problem yourself sorry my english but I know how you feel right now but it's just a matter of telling your hosting provider to install the necessary php files to run your blog well

invision community you have several applications but these applications have a requirement to be able to work well with it is the case now that it is giving you a problem with blog as I mentioned that the invision community support tell you which extensions are necessary to be able to run blog and then you can report this problem to your hosting provider so that they can install these requirements

It isn't an extension you have to install, is an integral part of PHP that was specifically disabled on your web host.

We are trying to help as much as we can (note that typically server issues are outside of the scope of our support but we're trying to help you get running!).

As a summary

Jim noted that these kind of errors:

Error: Class 'IPS\File' not found (0)

mean that the class couldn't be loaded, whether that's because the file is missing, the upload of it failed or PHP simply doesn't have permission to read the file.

You were able to re-upload the files and solve that issue. Great!

 

Then you experienced some further issues when trying to create a blog entry, some core PHP functions had been explicitly disabled by your web host, resulting in this error:

Error: Call to undefined function ctype_lower() (0)

 

We haven't said that your MySQL server has an issue, or needs any remedial work. I do not know where this assumption has come from.

Now that you've confirmed that second issue is fixed, hopefully you should be all set and able to set up your Blog.
