This has been happening on and off for a couple of weeks now.

Some members (around 20%) are unable to comment on threads. They are "forced" to comment by adding a txt file

This seems to be entirely random i.e. different groups (including Mods), different locations etc.

Sometimes it just goes away, then comes back again.

Any ideas?

Do you have any plugins that could affect the editor, or have made any alterations to the editor itself?

Also do you have any custom JavaScript in the templates that could affect input of any sort?

I have seen this in another type of software when a modification for file uploads conflicted with a comment form. That also happened a bit random depending on what form was loaded first 🙂
