I have added the widget and it shows the following: 

I have searched in the guide how to configure this widget and at a loss what to do. Any idea how to make this widget active?

Click Edit, and fill it in the details you need? It is that simple, sorry to say.

What problem are you having, if you have already done that?

My guess: You are subscribed to the newsletter, so you don’t see the widget. That’s normal. You need to unsubscribe in the settings to actually see the widget working. 

There is nothing to edit when I click on edit. Nothing to configure. I put in the Newsletter widget 'Sign up for Newsletter' and that is all I can do. 

I also added the 'Activity Stream' widget below the 'Newsletter Signup' widget and both have the same message. I have a test page you can view here:

Do you see either widget on the test page?  I don't see either one on my browser on my Mac. I also checked my iPhone and neither widget shows up. I am missing something.
