Kyle F Posted February 7, 2021 Posted February 7, 2021 Hello. So as I'm sure Linux-experienced users are aware, there is a way of showing a user trying to SSH into a Linux server, a 'banner' of sorts, or like a warning notice that tells the connecting user that the server is secured and that unauthorized access is prohibited. One can achieve this by modifying the "MOTD" and "issue.net" files in "/etc/", and then restarting SSH. My question here is simple; what would you people put in as a connection warning?
Makoto Posted February 7, 2021 Posted February 7, 2021 Nothing. Attempting to access a server you don't have authorization to is against the law, banner or not. Someone attempting to brute force their way into your server isn't going to be able to read (nor would they care) about the banner. It's just something for personal use.

Makoto Posted June 1, 2021 Posted June 1, 2021 You can get even more creative and display something like "<connecting ip> is looking pretty sus" if you wanted, lol
