If you have missed a renewal payment for something on Marketplace with a renewal fee, it shows you that non-helpful message and fixing it involves asking support for help in the Client Area. Note that many of the apps were past due (not really past due, but I had left the community frozen in time about a year ago). I expected to be automatically charged as I was updating.
