Custom fields question

Recommended Posts

Hi there, quick question about custom fields. Having some trouble setting this up.

I am using the new Timeline application. My timeline in the making is here:

https://www.breatheheavy.com/exhale/index.php?/free-britney-timeline/

I want members to begin adding important events to this timeline.

I would like to create a custom field that requires the member adding the record (aka the event that took place on a specific date) to have to choose between one of three categories. Their new entry is either:

  1. An event
  2. A social media post
  3. A legal doc

When they add a record, they must choose one of of these categories.

Then, when someone wants to Sort By (filters), they can select one of the three above and it'll show those categorized via that Custom Field.

Here are my current custom field settings for this:

Which looks like this upon adding a record:

This is clearly not right because none of this shows up in the Sort By section when trying to filter.

Any idea how I can fix this? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Hopefully this made sense 😆

Thank you!!!

Also sidenote: my dates are showing up as long numbers which I would love to fix as well. 😂

This may be an issue with the modification itself.

The weird date thing? Or adding the custom fields? Reached out to the creator but waiting to hear back yet.

Also, have you considered removing /index.php?/ from your URLs?

Didn't even know that was possible! 😂 Heck yea how does one do this.

Oh ok sweet! Thanks. I see how to do this.

Wondering... will all the URLs I've promoted on social media respect this new rule? Is that what the .htaaccess file is going to do? Forward them?

Also, could this have a negative impact on my SEO by changing the URLs?

That field has just one option so far. Just click the ADD ANOTHER button to add the other two options.

But how do I get it to show as a filter? @opentype

It shows like this currently with three categories in:

Edit: Oh I see I think? I have to select "Custom?"

Is there a way to have the filters display directly in that drop down instead of selecting Custom?

You need to drag the filter widget to the page.

Oh awesome! Had no clue about that. 🙏 @opentype

I believe that worked! Going to keep trying a few things out. Thank you!

Wondering... the weird number IPS adds to the events "1158044400," did you hide this with CSS on your demo?

And also, how did you get the Year to appear like this?

They should redirect, and have no impact.

Hola! So I enabled the setting and uploaded a new htaccess, but when trying a topic link out I got the following 404. I reverted back to the original settings for the time-being. How come it did this you think?

This is known as unix timestamp, or the number of seconds since January 1, 1970. It shouldn't appear like that, so I guess something is wrong, possibly with the theme.

As I said before, this is addressed in the product description.

Please read the entire product description before purchasing and the content of the “additional information” no later than after the purchase and before the installation/setup. And read it again if you run into problems.
There is no need to waste other people’s time with PMs and support topics when everything is explained already.
