Posted July 31, 20195 yr Hi, We're trying to replace swear words with ¿¿¿¿ But when it displays it the first time, it shows the code, but if someone quotes it, it works...?! What are we doing wrong please and how can we make it right? Thanks
August 2, 20195 yr Author Sorry to bump this but surely someone must know? To clarify, when first replaced it shows the bbcode (or html) but when quoted by someone else it shows correctly. What am I doing wrong please? Thanks
August 5, 20195 yr Author thanks but surely this is something that can be done in the system. please can anyone answer to say yes or no if it can.
August 6, 20195 yr Author I contacted support last night (not sure why I didn't do that in the first place) and they've confirmed it's not possible at the moment to add formatting - very disappointing On 8/2/2019 at 1:08 PM, DawPi said: Maybe you should try my mod: I've just taken a closer look at this but it seesm to only change text to links which is not what I want. I want to be able to change words (swear words in this case) to formatted (colour/bold etc) words. Can your mod do this?
August 6, 20195 yr I don’t think the word filter is supposed to work with styling. It just replaces characters with other characters.

Yes, so I gather but that doesn't highlight to the author or others that a word has been replaced. We run a family board so we don't allow people to swear (we allow lesser swear words just not a handful of strong ones) and we don't allow them to do things like 'he can just **** off'. So if we just replace it with **** etc, it makes it harder to know if they have done it themselves or it's part of the filter. Which is why we went (or tried to) for the ???? symbols in red. The odd thing is, when someone quotes it, it shows correctly, so regardless of anything else there is a bug there.
August 6, 20195 yr If you want to signal something to the user, messing with their texts is not really the right way to do it. There are the moderation tools for that. If you want to signal to other readers that something was removed automatically, I’m sure you can find a replacement text that makes that clear, e.g [removed by word filter] or something.

No one suggested that, nor is it necessary as we are discussing the feature to do that here. So I don’t know why you make the statement I quoted or how that is a useful reply to what I said.
August 6, 20195 yr Author Sorry, you said 'If you want to signal something to the user, messing with their texts is not really the right way to do it. There are the moderation tools for that. ' I only want a way to add color to a word filter (which, as I said , works when it is quoted for some strange reason). If it's not possible, or you can't help further, please don't argue. We both have better things to do.
August 6, 20195 yr I’m not here to argue. I made the suggestion to choose your replacements in a way, that it’s clear that it’s coming from an automatic replacement, as you requested it. You cannot add styling to word filters, since word filters need to work everywhere. This includes titles for example, which cannot use HTML and would then show your styling code.
