Canonical on comments and tabs

Hopefully this is the last episode of the sitcom "Me and canonical" (very last season :biggrin:)

When I enable reviews and comments on the record (e. g. event) then I have different canonical tag depending on what tab I am.

Reviews

When I am viewing the page 3 on the review tab, e g. http://example.com/index.php?/calendar/event/1-bla-bla/&tab=reviews&page=3#reviews the canonical is:

<link rel="canonical" href="http://example.com/index.php?/calendar/event/1-bla-bla/&amp;page=3" />

Comments

When I am viewing the page 2 on the comment tab, e. g. http://mysite.com/index.php?/calendar/event/1-bla-bla/&page=2&tab=comments the canonical is:

<link rel="canonical" href="http://example.com/index.php?/calendar/event/1-bla-bla/&amp;page=2" />

However, this canonical takes me to the second page of the reviews(!) and not comments if requested in browser. The parameter tab is omitted in the canonical and thus the comment tab is never canonical.

Probably you can delete canonical for the reviews and comments in events, images, files and other records (3rd party are also impacted) as well to avoid the mess hier.

Leave this with me.

Everything I have read states that you should add a canonical to most pages even if they are completely self referencing. The omission of the tab is a real issue though and a simple bug to fix.

Matt, I changed in my apps the tabs to COMMENTS and REVIEWS; default used by IPS is REVIEWS and COMMENTS. According to @Sonya*, additionally to the above issue, there's false page (e.g.: I am on the page 6 of reviews, but canonical refers to the page 2, which is comments).

So my qustion is: is this hardcoded somewhere? Should I change back my tabs to REVIEWS and COMMENTS?

Tks.
