Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications Matt November 11, 2024Nov 11
Posted January 30, 20196 yr We're having trouble finding how to ban a user from a particular forum category. Surely this must exist as functionality, as it's pretty standard for sites to have different rules for different categories, and wanting to be able to ban a user from accessing a more sensitive area of the site while still allowing them to access another area. For example, we run a skydiving forum where our incidents/deaths forum is far more tightly regulated than the rest, and many users step over the line in that forum and need to be removed from it, but definitely don't deserve a site-wide ban. Does this functionality exist? Or is there only the ability to ban a user forum-wide?

Only way forum ban could be done vs full ban is groups if wanted to use out of the box stuff, but wanted go down plugin route without looking sure might be one there meet you needs if not you can go custom route.

This suggestion would be fine if we were a small scale forum with only a handful of categories. We have about 150 000 users and about 30 forum sections. It isn't practical to create 30 different additional user groups and take that approach. It feels like it should be out of the box functionality. I can't think of any reasons why it wouldn't exist. The group suggestion also doesn't help much as it is supposed to be handled by moderators and not admins. Adriano's plugin seems to make the process easier, but still requires administrators to do the work.
