Ivo Pereira Posted July 27, 2018 Share Posted July 27, 2018 Hello, I was looking for a way to require my newcomers to post in one specific forum to be able to continue using the rest of the forum. The most similar I have seen to these lines is having newcomers in one group that only has permissions to see that specific forum where I want the post to be made, and moving them based on post count to the Members group right after. Is this what is suggested to be done? Are there any other alternatives? Link to comment

I think that's it. However, you can also let them see other subforums and other parts of your site for as long as they cannot post anywhere other than your designated subforum for that purpose. If you just let them see the one subforum, then it will be pretty clear for them where to post. If you decide to let them see other subforums where they cannot post, it may be a bit more confusing. I use a third party application called Messages, and you can have one just for the newcomers all across the site directing them where to post for the first time. Link to comment

Quoting Messages addon just in case someone stumbles on this topic and wants to use it: Link to comment

Ivo Pereira Posted July 29, 2018 Author Share Posted July 29, 2018 Still related to this question, is there a way I can change the default group for newly registered members? Link to comment
opentype Posted July 29, 2018 Share Posted July 29, 2018 It’s in the conf_global.php 'guest_group' => 2, 'member_group' => 3, 'admin_group' => 4, Link to comment
