Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications Matt November 11, 2024Nov 11
Posted July 2, 20186 yr Just tested a URL in google to see how it was performing. The second 2 listings contain content that is not actually in the topic that is listed. What would cause this anomaly?
July 2, 20186 yr That (to me at least) sounds odd. Was that content *ever* in the topic ? As in was the topic edited or perhaps moved to a different section in your forums ?
July 2, 20186 yr Posting the URL to these Google results would help. But anyway: I am pretty sure those are results from blocks linking to articles, related posts or something. You made a specific query, so Google not only lists the original content, but also pages where that text appeared as well.
July 2, 20186 yr Also, I see in the title "PAGE 6". Did you check page 6 of the topic to make sure the content wasn't in posts on that page?

Can't replicate the search results now! 5 hours ago, bfarber said: Also, I see in the title "PAGE 6". Did you check page 6 of the topic to make sure the content wasn't in posts on that page? Yes of course. Those posts were definately not made in that topic Try this @opentype https://www.google.co.uk/search?rlz=1C5CHFA_enGB778GB778&ei=v3g6W5meKYviUefWuZAF&q=free+tickets+to+bbc+countryfile+live+with+stihl+&oq=free+tickets+to+bbc+countryfile+live+with+stihl+&gs_l=psy-ab.3..35i39k1.75630.76787.0.77125.7.7.0.0.0.0.153.575.6j1.7.0....0...1c.1.64.psy-ab..0.7.574....0.vPF0UIg6ALw This is what it shows for me If I do a google search using the supposed content on the previous search it returns no results site:arbtalk.co.uk I wish I hadnt put that about the 27RX leaving a rougher finish as the difference compared to other chains is minimal. That said with all that
July 3, 20186 yr The post came from here: https://arbtalk.co.uk/forums/topic/109408-best-chain-for-milling/?page=2&tab=comments#comment-1644099 Google's cache of the page in question is broken: https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:ziADbhcNAnYJ:https://arbtalk.co.uk/forums/topic/111210-free-tickets-to-bbc-countryfile-live-with-stihl/%3Fdo%3DfindComment%26comment%3D1644340+&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us My only assumption right now is that there was a widget showing similar content or a post feed block or something along those lines that resulted in the post content in question showing up on the page that is coming up in Google search.

Odd one hey. Your assumption is probably correct though. How did you source the original post? It returned nothing when I googled it Also should I be concerned that the cache was broken on a 3 day old topic?

Wouldn't this be in reverse order though? ie: I googled the topic title, surely that should just contain text within the topic? If I googled the text and it showed a topic then your theory would make more sense...at least to me anyway 2 minutes ago, bfarber said: The search feature on your own site ? theres such a thing on my own site?

That’s why it can be useful to pay attention to this and maybe demote secondary matches. For example: if the search for a forum topic doesn’t lead to the topic first but to the authors “activity listing page 15” I would consider deactivating profile indexing. Just an example of course.

Thanks, I will keep an eye out for such listings
