Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications Matt November 11, 2024Nov 11
Posted December 23, 20177 yr I would love to see that the Support part of Commerce will be integrated in the Core itself. Because to me it doesn't make sense to buy a Commerce module just for the Support part. Plus...one could be in need of a Support module with only Forums / Pages / Downloads etc.
December 23, 20177 yr You can pseudo achieve this with some creative forum permissions. Whereby users only see topics they have created and moderators can see all topics. There is also the Q&A topic type. I could see support being an add-on item to downloads, where you wouldn’t necessarily need commerce. But for just core, or Forums, I see the support system as almost pull marketing for those that may not need a full fledged commerce system, but need a more full featured 1:1 support communication platform.

If you need it, I would just go for the commerce module. Would be nice if it was integrated as part of the core because even running a forum, it would be nice to have support tickets. I don't think commerce is a widely used as forums and I would break out the support module from commerce and make them separate apps with lower prices on each app.

Maybe as an add-on with another app, commerce or downloads, but not by itself. They are in their business of selling community software, not support tools for administrators. While it is a full featured system, it's not community based.

(And by the way, there's nothing wrong with that, but that's your argument). There will always be tools in every part of the suite that uses will use or don't use. Users will then say, I like Q&A but I don't want to pay for all of Forums. Or, I like creating news articles in Pages but don't want to pay for all of Pages. For IPS to partition and sell every possible combination of its modules to satisfy the needs of it's clients is a stretch. Suck it up, pay for commerce, and think of the overpayment as a nice Christmas gift to IPS.
