Firstly, the previous version was positioned right at the top of the page. Now it is below the logo et cetera bar.

I suppose there is some code to place it one of the top but I have no idea what it might be. Could you help please?

I removed the location options in the plugin settings, it was only added so in case if a user uses a different theme with different html structure. now there is only one location added as default which shows news ticker under userbar in default ips theme.

if you dont want that then simply click the custom option and add the template tag in somewhere you want in globalTemplate 🙂

i can also help if you explain where you want to show it exactly.

but.. i really suggestion you to use the IPS widgets as you can basically add multiple news tickers and can be added in any place where widgets are allowed, each widgets you add have its own configuration settings.

Second curious thing is that it hasn't implemented the colours. There are HTML colours for each message in the ticker that they are all displaying in grey at the moment.

you can change the ticker colors in the plugin settings or... in each widget settings.

note if you have color issues you probably have some css class/id or styles manually set on the tickers html, you will need to remove it so it doesn't override the plugin color settings.

also when you add a news ticker widget, there is a demo of tickers you can simply copy on that or check how tickers should look like. basically, tickers html can be anything you add for example links, images....etc

Am I able to put one at the bottom of the page with different messages?

edit the widget and check the Location options 🙂

you can also do that with the plugin side of news ticker.

The spacers are no longer available in fact they made it very much more attractive and stand out more

will be readded along with news ticker styles option in another version. i can help if you ask what you want how you want and possibly with screenshots with faster answer ^^

Thanks for your reply.

Yes, I understood that I had to put a template tag in – but I'm afraid that I didn't know what to put. I be very grateful if you could help me there.
I'd like to reproduce exactly what we have here on our test site https://www.cagtest.co.uk/ including the top and bottom little margins on it. There, the ticker really is perfect. I was interested in your upgrade because I wanted to try and have multiple tickers although I haven't tried this yet.
=====================

in terms of the colours, I'm sorry I didn't make myself clear. I'm talking about the text colours and once again if you have a look at the test site, you will find that the ticker messages are in a variety of colours. Exactly the same code has been used for the upgrade in our live site but the colours aren't displaying.

+++++++++++++++++++

thanks for the advice on the bottom ticker. I'll try in the next few days.

Also, I'm looking forward to your next upgrade which will restore margins/spaces et cetera.

As far as me having to be patient – don't worry, I think you are responding very quickly.

Thank you.

It's a great plug-in. I'm looking forward to putting one at the bottom of the page as well. I'd really like to get the colour display sorted out.

I can't think of any further features at the moment – but I'm sure I will within seconds of you having finished and uploaded your next version!.

there are no color issues! on your site i can see that each ticker you have added have its own color set with inline css.

you will need to edit your tickers and remove the color style, if you cant do that i can help if you copy paste your ticker contents here so i can edit it for you. 🙂

i cant help by looking at your website because i dont know what are your tickers! if its from pages blocks then you need to copy the block contents for me to edit for you. i hope that makes sense ^^

sorry im totally confused

when i visit your website at https://www.cagtest.co.uk/ i can see the news ticker on top of the site. and each ticker has its own color set in the html tickers.

i see it like this

this means your plugin color settings has no effect if you play with it! because you have already changed colors it in the html

so if you dont want that then here is the code to replace (I only removed color property)

Yes, that's the test site with the old version and it's working perfectly.

It's the live site which was upgraded and that's the one which is now displaying without colour – and also I'd like to move the position to the very top as well as having the borders above and below.

The live site is at www.nationalconsumerservice.co.uk

Just to be clear – I want the live site to display colours in exactly the way that they display correctly on the test site.

I've put in exactly the same HTML code in both and for some reason rather the colour doesn't display on the live site since the upgrade.

the colors needed to be set on the ticker and not inside the ticker items, there was also no point haven links inside li tags

so the below code is the same thing as your old one and should work for both old and new version as well as future versions

its also easy to understand the code if you wanted to change the colors!

Thanks.

I copied the code into the testsite and the ticker messages are on top of each other rather than in a row.  Also very small text.

Colours display well.

Hi,

font size can be changed in the settings including colors!

i also tested before posting the code to you. plus its only links and they show as tickers and it works when i just tested again!

what i posted to you, must be in custom tickers field and Not in any other elements inside the custom tickers. if you paste it in any element they WILL overlap on each other. this could also happen if this "testsite" you talking about uses older version of news ticker!

it could also happen if your news ticker was not properly updated. for example if you have edited the news ticker css/html templates, they will be marked as custom and custom css/html templates does not update during plugins/apps//themes or ips upgrades if you customized them.

Okay. I had been copying your code into the test site ticker which was still the old version – and as you have seen, that didn't work correctly.

I've now copied the code into the custom ticker on the live site – and it works perfectly. Obviously I should have done that first of all.

Couple of little things – the old ticker used to have a nice little red dot separating each message. It was a nice touch. Anyway that I can get that back?

Also, are you able to give me the tagline to move it up to the top?

If I can get that sorted, I'll leave you in peace! But thanks very much indeed for all your help.

yea i removed it because i wanted the news ticker to be more customizable for example i dont want that red dot between image tickers. the red dot was always there before no matter what.

you can manually add a ticker and use it as a separator. for example a nice little red dot with font awesome icons https://fontawesome.com/v4.7/icon/circle

simply add the below html as a ticker and paste it any where in the tickers field. ( in your case you need to paste it between each tickers )

<span><i class="fa fa-circle" style="color: red; font-size: 14px;"></i></span>

--in the code above, the dot is red and the size is 14 px 🙂 you can change it. you can also change the font awesome tag with anything else

for example another solution to add a nice separator between each of the tickers. you can add emojis.

e.g. on windows 10 while adding/editing/creating tickers on your website. press (Windows + . ) on your keyboard to open emojis. then simply select the emoji 🙂 nice dots  🔴🟠🟡🟢🔵🟣🟤

use case

<span style="color: red; font-size: 14px;">the color will be blue!🔵</span>

you can also do it with css each news ticker has a unique id which you can apply on. but the above way is more efficient

21 hours ago, BankFodder said:

i have already uploaded a new version since yesterday but its not yet approved in marketplace. the new version included with one more location setting to show news ticker above user bar which is on top of the site 🙂

also, in the widget news ticker you can already do that but the news ticker becomes sticky on top of the site.

By the way, in your HTML code you have named the colours and I found that this didn't work for us. I had to replace the names with the #colour codes and then that worked. However the separators won't display colour whatever I do

yea i just checked theres already a color set on font awesome icons thats why. so you only need to move the color style in the font awesome element tag

i have edited my post above 🙂

Great. It's working well. Thanks for your help.

Two feature requests:
firstly, having the "news ticker" label on the left hand side is a great touch on a desktop. On a mobile phone display it's too much. It takes up too much space.
Any chance of being able to select a different one – much smaller, maybe as an icon – or even switch off for mobile displays. I suppose the most flexible would be to have three different labels which one could configure for a desktop, a tablet, and a mobile phone.

Secondly, when it reaches the end of the ticker (meaning the whole series of messages) there is then a long space before the message series starts again.
Any chance that it could be set so that it is a continuous carousel? Or at least the length of the gap could be set in the configuration.

Thanks

you can add this line in  custom.css which will set the news ticker titles on right set.

.tans-Title { right: 0; }

title supposed to be hidden on small screens like mobile... will be fixed on next version 🙂

that could happen if the tickers html is using some css class names including other properties that can mess with it! your custom tickers need to be simple like links or texts for example you dont need to have a link ticker inside an <li> and then inside another <font> tag

if your news ticker shows only links then the tickers should be only <a href="">link text</a> or <span><a href="">link text</a></span> no problems

Thanks for the update – and sorry to come back to you with a possible glitch so quickly.

If you have a look at https://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/

you will find that if you scroll up and down the page, the ticker at the top is transparent so that the underlying page text interferes with the ticker.  This is the top menu only.  Doesn't seem to happen with the rest of the page
image.thumb.png.eb478e1a9f0e177880efb5ccf4bd398c.png
Also, I'd still like to just get it at the top of the page will not be sticky in the way that it is on our test form but I don't know the code tag

Hi @TAMAN did you say New Ticket can get topics links directly?

if you have  pages app sure...

create a topic feed block here acp > pages > Blocks  (you must edit the block content and remove every html but the topic link )

then add a news ticker widget and select the block instead of custom tickers. you basically have a setting to select pages blocks to show in the news ticker in this version

I don't know if this extra block item is relevant to you.  I didn't create it.

I tried ti make a ticker which wasn't sticky and which was at the top of the page but it wouldn't appear.

Also the bottom margin doesn't display

and the top margin is transparent

I just tested and news ticker shows fine on top of page.

the location settings you choose for example Above User Bar, will depend on your theme.

in default IPS theme the user bar is on top of everything so above userbar is above everything. if your theme is customized and user bar is in footer then news ticker will show in footer. i hope that makes sense  these two settings might not even work if your custom theme user bar has different element ids.

thats why there is a reason for the custom option now in this version.

3ab532d0b21f7a6328cbc3b8c8f2a996.png

simple.

  1. select Custom option and then copy the template tag.
  2. where do you want to show this newsticker? for example in most cases you will only want to add it in globalTemplate template by editing your theme.
    MaxthonSnap20210623141248.thumb.png.b08628db149022bdeb65048cab44daa6.png

you can also add the template tag anywhere in pages app

the margin option only adds 7 pixels gap on top and bottom of the news ticker and it shouldn't change news ticker in any other way

...you can disable the margin option and edit the news ticker height setting and make it bigger. for example add more 14 pixels to the height setting. it will be same as enabling the margin option. your tickers will still be centered all good its just like a gap on top and bottom but inside news ticker and its also not transparent on top and bottom anymore 😛..!
