Disable all Member Personal messenger

You can disable each groups ability to use it if you prefer ?

ACP > Members > Groups > Social tab , but this will still (if you set it all to zero) allow them to reply to existing messages.

If you really wanted to turn it off globally: ACP > System > Applications > Expand the 'system' icon on the left. In the list find "Messages" and click the green "enabled" button to turn it to a red "disabled" one. Messages are now off for everyone. A slight twist on this you can click the padlock icon and change which groups can use it, if that's easier ?

Make a note of this though as I have seen topics previously where someone has posted about messenger not working and a closer look showed it was disabled in apps. :)

Just to expand on the above a bit, if you wanted it per group leave it enabled (green) but simply uncheck the groups you want to deny access. I know that sounds obvious ( ! ) but it has been known to have it disabled thinking it would only disable those groups... :)

Nope, its members of all groups, that is one of the key things that is making hard to just do individual or just group

But again all this advice will be noted 100%

You're welcome. :)

My (personal) suggestion here is to leave it 'enabled' (green) and just turn off problem groups unless you really wanted to have a global "off" for it. :) By this I mean perhaps leave it on for staff groups but off for member groups...
