Newbie block question

Hello All,

I'm trying to figure out how to use blocks and I haven't really located any docs on the subject. I started by throwing a div and some text in a custom html block, but it just displays the html source. Is there a special tag that I need to include?

It sounds as though you're creating a custom block but then choosing Editor. You need to choose Manual HTML or Manual PHP.
