Quick question: does the topic view counter count every single topic view or does it count only one view per unique user?

Another question: the counter is not updated immediately, I guess it is a background task that updates it?

Yes, the views are stored in a separate table and they are updated via a cron task

@Daniel F so, just to confirm, if the same person reads a topic 10 times, will it count as 10 views? What happens when there are multiple pages? If a user reads pages 1 through 5 of a topic, will this count as 5 views or as a single view?

I know I'm not Daniel, but yes on both. (Assuming you're not a guest and receive a guest cache.)
