Tasks locking after upgrade

I recently upgraded to and I now constantly receive this warning message on my ACP dashboard.


Maintenance tasks

The following tasks appear to be locking frequently: gatewayPending.
Please run them manually. If you require assistance with any errors shown please contact technical support.

I run the task manually, but the error message appears 2 minutes later when the task attempts to auto-run itself.


Additionally, a member just contacted me and said they received this error on Paypal when trying to purchase a product on my site:


Sorry, we can’t complete your purchase at this time

Please return to the merchant and choose another way to pay.

Prior to the upgrade, I don't believe there were any issues.


Firstly, are these issues related? And secondly, is there a solution I should follow?
