Custom profile dropdown plugin

Basically I am looking at the same functionality as provided by this hook, which unfortunately is not updated for 4.0 and it seems the author has abandoned it:

It seems the autoember does not work, so here is a link to the support topic of the hook for 3.4:

It turns a profile field with many checkboxes from this:

 

in to this:

 

I believe there is a market for a plugin like that and I am willing to sponsor part of the development costs. In the support topic of the original hook @Kjell Iver Johansen and @Songstuff expressed a will to help offset the development costs too, hopefully they can confirm.

Hello - I can no longer confirm.  I developed another solution for my board spesific needs.
