I want recent activity as homepage but can't seem to find a way how. placing system as the main app doesn't work. 

You can set the url of any page on your site to be the homepage from the app settings.

It should. I did exactly that and use the activity stream as homepage: http://typography.guru

Interesting I try again anything else you might have done to do that?

 

I set Content Discovery as main module and then the System app as main app, as you can see in this screenshot. That should do it. 

If it doesn’t work, can you be more specific what that means? Do you get an error message? Does the star not change? Do these things work, but you don’t see an effect on the site? What have you tried (clicked) to check this?
