VK.com integration - the largest European social network

Vkontakte (or VK.com) social network is like Russian Facebook. It is number one social network in all Russian speaking countries (Russia, Ukraine, Belorussia, Kazakhstan, e.t.c.). It's ranked 21 in Alexa global top and has over 300 million users. Its active users database is bigger then Instagram or LinkedIn. Almost everybody in Russia has VK account (and doesn't have Facebook account).

@Charles, @Lindy, @Matt, please, consider the possibility to add VK integration into the future IPS releases as one of the default login methods along with Facebook, Twitter and Google. It would be the best Christmas gift for all Russian speaking community.

VK supports oAuth 2.0 authentication and has wonderful documentation: https://vk.com/dev/authentication

Thank you in advance!

Great!

I suppose there is a typo in the topic title, it's not the biggest social network of Europe, but Russia. ;)

Why not just have someone make the login handler? IPS gave us the tools to play with, why not use their sandbox? (Figurative sandbox)

They say in their site they have 1/3 of active users. It means 2/3 are ghost users by now.

" VK is the largest European social network with more than a 100 million active users. "

Indeed. With lots of great programmers in Russia, nobody takes the chance to make some money?

VK says in their 100 million active users. The problem is that they must be very localized (mostly Russia).

" VK is the largest European social network with more than a 100 million active users. "

European here must be russian, because i'm in europe and don't know anyone who actually uses it.

@MADMAN32395 there are some solutions, but they all have bugs and sometimes die after new IPS releases. The main disadvantage is that it could block login function for all users registered via VK. My proposal is to make a native high quality VK support.

Yes, and also Ukrainians, Belorussians, but anyway the phrase about the largest european social network seems to be correct, because the big part of Russia (and entire Ukraine and Belorussia) is located in Europe, and the city where VK was created is located in Europe too. So there is no any typo in the title.

Why? You have at least two good 3rd-party plugins which add VK as a login method.

As much as I think Vkontake is an important regional social network, it pales in comparison to Facebook's global reach.

VKontatke average daily users: 46.8 Million

Facebook average daily users: 1.13 Billion

https://www.statista.com/statistics/346167/facebook-global-dau/

It is not the responsibility of IPS to support every regional social network or login method.

But it doesn't pale in comparison with Linkedin whose social login feature is already integrated into the IPS. Or Microsoft. Do you know many people who have and use their Microsoft accounts for social logins?

That's what people don't understand. Microsoft or Linkedin are global! VK doesn't. Even having 100% of russian people using it.

OK, Pinterest is global. Tumblr is global. Steam is global. Samsung is global. Is global still more important than popularity?

Yes. VK is popular... IN RUSSIA. :)
