Please bring back ability to add/view status comments from index

Statuses were a huge part of our community and what kept it engaging for other users. IPB has severely crippled the Status Update feature... no longer do status comments appear on the main index, nor is it possible to leave a reply from the index block, you need to load the person's profile to do that (which is another issue as that requires possibly loading a HQ cover photo, increasing page load).

I understand this may have been removed because IPB feels statuses are better incorporated into their new "Followers" and "Activity Stream" features, but my community just isn't interested in these features. It's a forum not Facebook.

I hope we can get some kind of firm reply on to having this functionality come back, because every time I see this topic come up it gets ignored by staff.

EDIT: Also would like to add that settings like allowing emoticons to show in the block, and stopping statuses posted on someone's profile from being shown in the block, would be nice too.

I totally agree with this comment, our upgrade was done yesterday & this is one of the things the members are moaning about

We used to see little funny conversations in the status updates on the index page, but now, it is either every update with no conversation or nothing

I'll give a plus one to that.. I still have mad amounts of statuses and replies but I did prefer to be able to view them from the widget instead of having to go to the page.

Status updates are poorly implemented on V4 and it has been mentioned since the early pre beta days and nothing was done about it not even mentioned in the feature plan which isn't accessible anymore either.

It's the number 1 complaint I have on our site.

Yes exactly. My members dislike using it because of the unneeded amount of extra steps to reply or view the entire status

I still can't understand why anyone would want to create a status update. What benefit does it have to the rest of the community? I feel like I'm missing something here.

Status Update: "I'm feeling bewildered."

Status Update: "Dude, why do you gotta be so obtuse.  Let me totally show you.  Status updates are awesome."

Status Update: "Party in the USA!  Happy 4th of July!"

It's another way for your community to connect. For my community it's a way to be more personal and to tell people when you are feeling good or bad.

Or like this one where one of my members declared a poke war on me:

It makes things more personal for me.

I've said this before a few times so I've got no problems saying it again :)

The status widget of the 3.4 series was a defacto site-specific Twitter implementation. And it was (and is) fantastic. A better/different Shoutbox. Great for stuff worth saying but nothing worth a full-on forum post.

The key was the ability to respond to the statuses in the widget. Honestly, this should be in the upcoming features list and in-line right next to search for getting done.

Hoping it is coming soon, mentioned in other posts, my members use this heavily on 3.4 which I am still on. Replying directly is key.
