I currently have 3.4xx (latest version before 4 so I know it works on my server) that I'm self hosting with my own license. It was installed by IPS team member. It's very raw and I don't care about completely deleting it and I'm ready for 4.2. I've downloaded the files from my client area and they are unzipped. I've tried to get an answer via ticket but have not received an answer in a few days. To make the change, my question is:
1. Do I simply delete the older 3.4xx folder on the server?
2. How do I install the 4.2 files or how will they look like when on the server (file order)? Do I create and name a new folder?
Any other tips would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance
Yeah just delete all the 3.4 files and upload the 4.x ones in the same place.
Then go to your site on the web browser and follow the install steps. You may want to set up a new database on your server for the new install.
Or if you want to upgrade, just upload the 4.x files on top of the 3.4 ones, without deleting anything, so it will upgrade and you don't have to setup a new database.
Actually for upgrading, before uploading the 4.x files, you can delete everything except conf_global.php, .htaccess, public and uploads folder, and downloads folder if you have that app.
(If you choose to do this, go to "yoursite.com/admin/upgrade/" after uploading the files
I deleted everything in the folder on the server. I then used filezilla to upload all the new folders and files to the same exact database folder I deleted everything from. I then opened the browser and started the install process. I can't get passed the part where you enter your sql password and username area. I typed everything correctly but it won't let me log in. When I called my host provider, they told me it's because I used filezilla and should be using mysqladmin to upload files. I tried that but I can only upload 1 file at a time and when I try, I get errors and can't upload. Any ideas? Thanks
You did correctly uploading the files using Filezilla.
You have to create a sql database in your server, mysqladmin is just a manager for the databases, don't upload install files there, it expects database import files only.
When you create the database, you assign it an username and a password, that's what you use in the install process.
What panel does your host use for you to manage your server? So I can give you some instructions on how to create the database.
I did create a new database on my server. The problem is I didn't know I had to do that 1st. When I initially uploaded the new 4.2 files and folders via filezilla, it was not uploaded to a new database folder. They were all uploaded to the "old folder that was already on my server that I emptied out. I'll try creating a brand new database on my server and reuploading via ftp. Will let you know, thanks
Support tickets for installs and upgrades have an 8 day waiting period now. AARRGGG!!
Don't worry you are waiting for the next IPS update too .. they are coming every week ..
Uploading files has nothing to do with MySQL .. before or after uploading files doesn't matter at this point .. even when you can see the first installation page in your browser .. you still can manipulate your MySQL and that includes dropping & creating ..
Got CS to help with the install. Now the work begins...
Thanks for all the help!
fwiw your old conf_global.php would show the database info too
