Guest Posted April 29, 2015 Posted April 29, 2015 HiI don't understand why in the client area it shows the current prices and renewal prices for items that I don't have but it doesn't show the renewal prices for the items that I do have. Also if I purchase an items why do I have to keep paying to renew it? Am I renting the software or did I buy it? And renewal fees are in some cases half the price of the product if not one third, by the time one pays all the renewal fees one could have bought the entire product as if it were new.I love your product but I don't think that I will be buying any more products... the mulitple renewal fees are too much and the renewal fee should be one fee - one fixed price covering the entire year. All these separate renewal fees make the product less appealing.... I know that the company needs to turn a profit but the board itself is expensive and then the addon's - it's just too much. I believe at one time all the features were in the board itself...it would be better if it returned that way

Do you have screenshot? Also if I purchase an items why do I have to keep paying to renew it? Am I renting the software or did I buy it? You “buy” the right to use software as it is available at the time of the purchase. You don’t have to buy renewals for continuing to use the software, as you would have with a rent for a flat for example. The renewal price is for continuous support and future releases which you can then download free of charge. the mulitple renewal fees are too much and the renewal fee should be one fee -Again, not sure what you mean. It is one fee, which is calculated based on the apps you use for each install.
HighlanderICT Posted April 29, 2015 Posted April 29, 2015 Also if I purchase an items why do I have to keep paying to renew it? Am I renting the software or did I buy it? And renewal fees are in some cases half the price of the product if not one third, by the time one pays all the renewal fees one could have bought the entire product as if it were new.You buy the software and get (that version of) the software forever but you also get 6 or 12 months of ticket support and access to any new versions released in that time without any additional payments. At the end of the support period you have the option to renew your maintenance/support or to let it lapse. If you renew you continue to get access to new versions and support, if you do not renew you can continue to use the product up to the version number that was available when your maintenance expired. We currently have one active license and one we let expire. I work in this field as a software administrator and network licensing specialist and it is an standard not just for forums but across all sectors (mine is engineering). What is not standard, and where IPS should be applauded is that if you let your maintenance lapse IPS will allow you to renew at any time for the standard renewal fee whereas some of the big companies I deal with backdate your renewal to the date of expiry if you let it lapse. I love your product but I don't think that I will be buying any more products... the mulitple renewal fees are too much and the renewal fee should be one fee - one fixed price covering the entire year. All these separate renewal fees make the product less appealing.... I know that the company needs to turn a profit but the board itself is expensive and then the addon's - it's just too much. I believe at one time all the features were in the board itself...it would be better if it returned that wayWe have had our licenses for about 8 years and originally purchased a suite that had Board/Blog/Gallery but did have to purchase Downloads, Nexus, Content etc all separately. I don't think everything was ever available as a single suite.Having said that I would agree that while the software itself is priced appropriately some of the pricing for the ongoing renewals is a little high .... In my regular job I tend to find renewal fees are quoted to us that are in the region of 20% of the cost of buying a new license so that would put IPS a significant bit above that for Board, Nexus and Content and more or less in line with that number for Blog, Gallery and Downloads. I deal with more than 500 software providers over the course of a year so its not a small sample .....
Andrej Posted April 29, 2015 Posted April 29, 2015 Am I renting the software or did I buy it? You have purchased a license which allows you to use the software You do not "own" it. https://www.invisionpower.com/legal/standards#licenseLICENSEInvision Power Services (IPS) grants you a non-exclusive license to use the Software (...)TERM(...) All license terms allow you to operate your then-installed copy of the software without further renewals or costs. (...)However in order to access any newer version past your renewal date you will need to renew, as mentioned above.
Guest Posted April 29, 2015 Posted April 29, 2015 one more question... are there any special promotions currently active or discounts on the apps or will that happen anytime soon?
Joel R Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 one more question... are there any special promotions currently active or discounts on the apps or will that happen anytime soon? You should send an email to sales@invisionpower.com for any private promotions they may offer to switch you over. The last public promotion was for Black Friday 2014, I believe. Otherwise, you should consider it as an investment into the outlook of the IPS 4 platform and the stability of the IPS organization.
