Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications Matt November 11, 2024Nov 11
Posted December 11, 201410 yr In 3.4 with IP.Content I have complete control over the menu. I 4.0 it seems, I can only “arrange apps” to control the order of the menu. If I add custom sub-menus through Pages, they will all be “bundled” together. This however totally breaks how my site is working now. For example: I have a sub-menu for additional functions of minor importance (members online/delete account/contact admin/ …) at the END of my 3.4 menu. In 4.0 (with Pages as default app) that sub-menu will be forced to the beginning of my menu after "articles” and before "forum". I get the usefulness of the way it is working as a default option, but there should still be a way to have truly customizable menu. Especially since that is an existing feature of 3.4! The upgrade should at least maintain how it works and not break something so essential as the main menu.
December 11, 201410 yr Author And another thing: I also miss the option to hide an app menu completely or control the permissions who will see it. For example: I use the Calendar app, but since it’s of little importance to my site I have it in a sub-menu in 3.4. How do I do that in 4.0? And I might want to run blogs more privately and only show the blog app button to certain member groups. How do I do that in 4.0? It’s all easy in 3.4.
December 11, 201410 yr I'm totally with you on this. I was trying to figure out how to hide the IPS apps on the menu and couldn't find a way to do it.You should submit a bug report. Menu features from existing 3.4 should be included in 4.0.
December 11, 201410 yr I agree, but I remember someone asking about this and getting an answer from IPS that that will be implemented. At least, that's what I recall :-)Edit: I've just tried searching for it and can't find it... So it might just be my wishful thinking...

I thought it was Matt who posted it, but i can't find it, too
December 11, 201410 yr @daniel-son I found that, but that's not it. It's not the same issue. Anyway, I remember there being some screenshots... @TheSonic, I'm so glad I'm not the only one who remembers this
December 11, 201410 yr Anyway, I remember there being some screenshots... Maybe mine? I appear to have inadvertently killed the discussion in that thread so I'm glad it's been restarted here.
December 11, 201410 yr Yes! That's it Thank you @Meddysong Unfortunately, I can't see the image Charles posted...
December 11, 201410 yr If I'm not mistaken, Matt said on the test forum that the menu system would be very similar to that of 3.4 (or words to that efffect).

December 11, 201410 yr Thanks guys, you are right.. That post was made by Matt on the testforums Puh... I thought i am getting old now...
December 11, 201410 yr Author … that the menu system would be very similar to that of 3.4 (or words to that efffect). That could mean anything …
December 11, 201410 yr Looks like missing the possibility to disable the default tabs for forum and so on. Via the Pages Menu it's easy to build own tabs for the apps inclusive the user group permissions for viewing the tabs.
December 12, 201410 yr That could mean anything …It could, he definitely said you can create custom menus like 3.4 (pretty sure about that) and not to sweat over it.
December 17, 201410 yr Author There is now an option to hide application menu items with the new Beta. Much better, but I am still unable to recreate my 3.4 menu with unconnected IP.Content main menu entries and submenus. For a moment I thought one could work around this be deactivating all apps and set up everything through Pages, but then menu items such as Forum cannot be shown as active section, since the menu just treats them as links.
December 17, 201410 yr To create sub menus, you need to use folder rather than URL without the url being completed. @Matt said that the menu system should be transferred from 3.4.7 but due to how the 2 systems work it might not be exact.
December 17, 201410 yr Author To create sub menus, you need to use folder rather than URL without the url being completed. Sure. What I meant: I can’t recreate the menu items for Forum, Gallery and so on in the Pages menu editor. The links would work, but the menu item won’t get shown active when you click it. (e.g. darker in the default template)
