Pages 4.0: Navigation Bar

It would be nice with IP. Content/Pages if we could add links directly to the navigation bar, rather than be forced into having created pages form a drop down menu under the "Pages" link.

It would also be nice if you could rename the application links on the bar to better suit your communities.

If you want to use Pages to create a variety of sections on a website, you need the ability to do both of those things. The name "Pages" as a menu option is impersonal and doesn't always define what you'd consider a 'main site'. In my case, I want to use Pages to create a main site like a blog, but I also want to create separate pages for information unrelated to the blogging or the forum. It's difficult to do that because everything is confined to the "Pages" link on the navigation bar, which I can't rename.

If this is possible and I'm overlooking something, it'd be nice to know how to achieve this. The Pages application is a little difficult to pick up and use immediately.

Look at our navigation bar - that's exactly what we've done here.

If I understand correctly, "IPS4 Resources" is the Pages application. The fact that it's renamed solves half the issue I have (and I'd appreciate advice on how to rename Pages), but the other problem remains. Seemingly, everything you make in Pages can only be added to the navigation bar via a drop-down menu. I'd like to be able to add custom pages alongside the other application links, separate from the Pages drop-down menu. If that's possible already, again, I'd appreciate advice on how to do it; I've looked around settings, but I can't figure it out.

Thanks.

Ace - that's just the sort of thing I was hoping to do too, @Charles. Thanks for showing how easy it would be to do so.

Along similar lines, is it possible to choose differing positions in the nav bar for the top-level tabs? Let's say I wanted my nav bar to look like this:

- Forums

- About Us (a menu header, with sub-headings such as "Who we are", "How to reach us" etc, all being built with Pages)

- News & Updates ( = something built with Pages)

- Blogs

- Commerce

- Gallery

- Downloads

- Something else built with Pages, maybe a list of help files, bug reports etc.

Would that sort of arrangement be possible to pull off? Or is the order initially determined by where we choose to place the Pages app?

My understanding, is that we will be able to create our own menu system rather than having all pages linked under pages as a menu. At least this was what was said on the preview site before it was closed (unfortunately I cannot link to it). It is imperative that we can create our own menu structure (i.e. 3.4.*) rather than a predetermined menu.

No that's not how it works :)

Ah, okay. I have the preview copy of Pages, so it's working a little differently to what you've got there.

Happy to know it'll be possible to make those kind of changes; makes it much easier to customise the 'feel' of the software.

Thanks!

You can do that now. Go to System and then Applications. You simply drag the applications into the order you want them to show on the bar, then set the application you want as default.

Oh, sure - I know that :) What my question is, though, is whether it's possible to have multiple Pages-designed menu items at different spots in the nav bar, or whether they're limited to only appearing where the Pages app is shown in System > Applications. For instance, if Pages is set between Forums and Downloads, will all the top-level Pages-designed menu items appear only between Forums and Downloads, or can I place them in different locations between different applications?

In other words, is this possible?
