Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications Matt November 11, 2024Nov 11
Posted November 17, 201410 yr Hi,I know in the first day or so after the upgrade here they said not to worry about speed (due to tuning, background processes still running, etc.) but even now I'm still finding the site very slow. I wondered perhaps if this was just on the mobile version or even browsing with Safari. For me on opening pretty much any thread I get a partial (1/5th) loading bar instantly and then it hangs for about 20 seconds and suddenly the page appears. If the site loads super fast for you then great but *please avoid replying* - I'm trying to establish any pattern for those of us who are getting these frequent mid page loading hangs so I can then file it as proper feedback. On that note my setup is iPhone 5s, latest version of iOS, Safari and using high speed fibre connection over Wifi.
November 17, 201410 yr Author Just replying to my own topic now that I'm finally back on my main PC (Win 8.1 / Chrome) and the site is fast. So I'm thinking perhaps this is a mobile issue and/or something relating to the way Safari on the iPhone handles the site? If people who are experiencing slow loads only, can reply back with their browsing environment we can see if there's a pattern or common theme. Cheers
November 17, 201410 yr Loads immediately for me with iPhone 5 and Chrome. Typing this response on the phone now.
November 17, 201410 yr Author That's useful thanks - can you try Safari - also you'll need to test for a little while (as in browse around a few pages).
November 17, 201410 yr That's useful thanks - can you try Safari - also you'll need to test for a little while (as in browse around a few pages). No issues in Safari either. Posting that right now after clicking about a dozen pages to get here. And I only have 2 bars of LTE so not on Wifi either.
November 17, 201410 yr Author Seems better for me now too.Only remaining issue is that sometimes it takes a while before my input in the reply box registers
November 18, 201410 yr Management Seems better for me now too.Only remaining issue is that sometimes it takes a while before my input in the reply box registersYes that's a downside to RTE on mobile. We are considering disabling RTE on mobile and instead just a plain text box.
November 18, 201410 yr Yes that's a downside to RTE on mobile. We are considering disabling RTE on mobile and instead just a plain text box.Sounds like a good idea, I can't imagine anyone formatting text on mobile anyway.
November 18, 201410 yr Author Ironically had the issue just now when trying to reply - probably about 15 seconds before my input started being registered by the editor. I think a plain text editor would be better - although I'm surprised this wasn't fixed a while ago as it was mentioned on the preview site (where is the archive of that by the way?)

That works for me immediately.
November 19, 201410 yr Management Oh please don't do that. Then my users will be stuck with Tapatalk and I hate that app. Do your users actually format text on mobile? I have never had the urge to do that.
November 19, 201410 yr Do your users actually format text on mobile? I have never had the urge to do that. They do in Tapatalk so moving them to the mobile skin would mean I'd want to get rid of Tapatalk. Not to mention only the very basic emoticons work in Tapatalk. And they post a lot of embedded Tweets and we want to be able to have the nice looking embedded Tweet that you get now with 4.0 just by pasting in the link. I assume that (and Youtube videos) would not embed properly with a plain text editor, right?
November 19, 201410 yr Management Yes they would still embed properly they would just parse on submit.
November 19, 201410 yr Yes they would still embed properly they would just parse on submit. That would be good then. My main desire is to have to keep the end user from having to manually type in BBCode tags like they do now if they want to use mobile. Bold, italic and the like aren't used nearly as much as [ media ] and [ tweet ] (tag I created to display embedded Tweets) tags are so that would certainly satisfy my needs thank you.
November 20, 201410 yr Author Hi @Charles do you know if the dev team are regularly changing the editor on the mobile view? Yesterday it was working fine (iOS 8/Safari) but today it has gone back to not registering input - well it registers input but is blank when I type.
