We are Borg Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 What i would love to see is a countdown system in IPB 4.0 i think there will be more interest in this because most sites are waiting for new releases of everything really, when come that new care or new game i think most of sites can use this.
Rheddy Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 GOODNESS GRIEF! This is getting ridiculous. There is already an IPB4 prediction topic here: http://community.invisionpower.com/topic/397621-40-release-prediction/ Wait until the other topic is locked before another one is created. Now we have non-client members creating them. *slaps forehead*
GreenLinks Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 People who are interested with the script has a right to ask their questions. Please don't forget that everyone has access to all forums. It is best to leave IPB staff to answer questions. Keep in mind you may think you are assisting IPB staff however what you actually do is scare potential license owners and you are actually harming IPB with your actions.

As for the link you posted i have no access to that part of the forum.

Well i do not scare that fast. But you are right his behaviour can scare people away but these days instead of ignoring the post people need to respond.
Wiscansan Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 I honestly think a feature like this is better off accomplished with a hook or add-on script. Give me all the base functions of a forum/community in IPB 4.0 and I'll add all the extra features that I want myself. I do not want IPB 4 to be bloated with features that I most likely won't use out of the box and I'm sure most community admins feel the same way. Give me what I need and I'll add the rest. Just my .

The idea is that when you have a countdown in every way possible you can add it if you make an article about a car that is going to be released or a game, bike etc etc. If you can add the counter every where it will be better thats maintained by the company it self.

He is wanting an application that offers a countdown. I agree there's no need for IPS4.0 to include a countdown system. This should be a third-party application.

Rheddy Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 IPB4 Countdown sounds awful lot like he's wanting to know when IPS4 will be releassed. If he was wanting a countdown hook, should have asked for IPB3 version. It's no big leap to realize that there haven't been anything released for IPS4 yet. While it sounds like I'm being sarcastic about it, It's not meant like that. First thing that should be done is to conduct a search but I've found that 99% of people don't bother to use the search function. Since he's been a registered member since 2010, I'm sure he's aware of how the releases go.
We are Borg Posted May 17, 2014 Author Posted May 17, 2014 '?do=embed' frameborder='0' data-embedContent>> Found that one some time ago i use it its good. If i was asking for a countdown for the release of IPB 4.0 i would have said so i gave an example in the startpost and i said more sites can use this. Else i would have said more people can use this. Also this is a suggetions and ideas forum so i posted this idea, the reason why i want it included in the main release instead of an hook is because of support and development, while there are people here that deliver good work it can be that they drop this. As for the suggestion well imagine that you are going to use the new calendar system you want might want to include a countdown to a specific date in a post, article or download. By intergrating this it would be easier to do so.
Rheddy Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 I figured that's what you were looking for and I think the others were under the perception that you were looking for a countdown timer. From what I gathered of your post, you were looking for a countdown timer to the release of IPS4, which is what you just confirmed. If you were put off by what I posted, then you have my apologies. When members on my site start spamming my own forums with the same topics and/or the same messages, it pisses me off to no end. One user I ended up having to issue a permanent ban because he started spamming every corner of my site with the same website link. After repeated verbal warnings, I decided that enough was enough. The insanity regarding "When Will IPS4 Be Released" topcis seem to have taken a life of their own as everyone tries to race to see who will create the next "IPS4" topic. The last time this happened was back when we were still using IPB 2.3.6 and the insanity regarding IPS3 went through the same thing.

Again i am not looking for a countdown to the release of IPB 4.0 we all have read the announcement that its going to be released in Q2 2014 and Q2 ends at 30 June 2014 23:59:59 so why would i want a timer for that.
Rheddy Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 How many times does it need to be said, there is no guaranteed release date for IPB so such a countdown system would be ridiculous in the first place. IPS does not have an exact release date, all they have said is that it would be released this year. They're not even sure that it will be released in the second quarter. Since this is already the third week of May, going into the fourth week, there are already going to be at least 2-4 weeks of beta testing. There's going to be another 2 weeks after that for public release candidate testing. The fact that they are still developing the software and that it hasn't gone through Alpha testing yet just shows that it hasn't even been finalized for testing. They are still working on it. Additionally, before IPS even releases it for any kidn of testing, they roll it out to the support forums here. You can verify this by checking out the Bug Tracker. If it was currently in Alpha testing, bug reports would be generated by Quality Testers in the tracker. As is currently, the only reports generated are from IPS staff who have encountered bugs during the development phase. But, it looks like this is just another "when will IPS4 be released" topic. IPS keeps saying, it'll be released when it's released. All this is is rehashing the issue. Going round and round in a circle. We're all getting dizzy. Here, I'll point you in the right direction: http://community.invisionpower.com/topic/397621-40-release-prediction/ :p You're welcome. *bows*

Tripp★ Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 I think We are Borg is asking for more features of the hook so it takes advantage of more features, as if it was built into IPS4. As someone stated that is best in a hook, and you would need to speak to the developer about adding more features.
Joel R Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 He wants to assimilate IPS4. Resistance is futile.
Rhett Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 Thanks for your feedback, since this topic keeps getting sidetracked, I'll close it up, our developers to review each topic though, so thanks for providing your feedback.
