Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt November 11, 2024
BomAleold Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Hello, this feature is most important for developers but also for users for avoid to use external software to upload image, xml or other tools also from mobile devices. also because, if possible, I could set for each admin permissions (read, download, write...) for each directory. source class: classftp or here example of panel
bfarber Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Why would you need FTP support to upload files from mobile devices? Most mobile devices don't even have a built in FTP client, but most (today at least) support regular web upload fields. We have an FTP class in IP.Board 3.4 (and an updated one in 4.0), but I really don't see how that would be of any use for what you have described.
CheersnGears Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 File size limitations and bulk transfers are just two reasons I can think of.
bfarber Posted November 1, 2013 Posted November 1, 2013 But, again, most mobile devices don't have FTP clients (and the average user wouldn't understand how to use one even if you did find an FTP app for your specific phone). This sounds like extremely niche functionality and not something that would be widely used.
CheersnGears Posted November 1, 2013 Posted November 1, 2013 iPads, Android Tablets, Smart Cameras like the Galaxy Camera and the Samsung NX Galaxy line. It would be useful for photography heavy sites where you may want to be able to bypass the php file upload size limit and FTP is generally more reliable of a transfer over a weak connection. You're right that the typical "Facebook selfie LOL!!" user won't know what FTP is, but Photographers know about FTP.
