Jelly Belly™
I bought my IPB licence way back at the beginning, it was called Life but its since changed, I get the upgrades but not the extras such as the spam service and fancy skin editor. My question is, just how effective is the spam service compared to other services such as SFS and how much will it cost me to upgrade my old licence ?I'm currently getting lots of spam registrations per day and its getting to be a pain going through them manually, I assume the IPB spam service automates their removal ?thanks in advance
Saiga
There's a mod for sfs and honestly it's not much different.
Mark H
The spam service in the latest version of Board does have an option that you can set, so that if a spammer is flagged during registration by the spam service, it won't let the account be created. That does make "cleanup" must less work. Between the Spam Service and the Q&A Challenge Question feature, I have had.... well, less than a dozen spammers get through this entire year. The Old Man
It's good and a great idea, but I think it could really do with a boost... Can't believe some of them that get let through... If you would like to upgrade your perp or life license, please submit a ticket and we can take care of that also provide you with an extra perk as well. 3DKiwi
I run both the spam monitoring service and the free sfs hook. I have the sfs hook configured so that if the IP or email address is listed even once then the registration is declined. I get virtually no spammers at a busy forum. No need for the Q&A although I do use Keycaptcha instead of the regular recaptcha. Those IP's listed above would have been caught by the sfs hook. You do realize any site that uses SFS integration can submit any user "once" at least, which means if you block anyone listed even once you are potentially blocking many valid registrations? All it would take for me to be blocked would be to upset a single forum admin somewhere, and have them submit me as a "spammer" in retaliation. From a personal standpoint, I feel like there should be a balance between blocking spammers and blocking real users. Only you can decide what that balance should be, however, on your own site. 3DKiwi
All it would take for me to be blocked would be to upset a single forum admin somewhere, and have them submit me as a "spammer" in retaliation. On the rare occasion that this occurs they can use my contact form to get in touch with me. I'll then work with them to get them off the sfs list / or I'll create an account for them if I think they are genuine.
Ibragim Pupkevich
Dears, I really see too many "INVALID_KEY" entries in spam service error log. Generally it works well, but as this error occurs too often, daily I get few normal users f***d off unfairly and it brings daily workload as they all write emails to admin mailbox like "why I'm inactive?", which I don't want to get, friendly speaking  How to debug this "INVALID_KEY" error? Ibragim Pupkevich
And one more question: in client area - where I can check expiration date of my license? So far I only found Purchased: 21 Apr 2012. But for sure I did renewal few times already... and the point is that I don't remember when I have renewed last time and for which period. So, how I should know expiration date?
Ryan Ashbrook
I would recommend submitting a ticket for those items - unfortunately, that's not something we can address here on the forums. :)
Ibragim Pupkevich
Just pruned error logs few minutes ago and you may see how frequently new errors occur :sad:Ok, sorry, I will submit as a ticket.
Ibragim Pupkevich
Is it okay that I have no packages to select when choosing "General support" in ticket submit form? O_o I think that's actually concerning my question on license expiration... strange.
Ryan Ashbrook
Select Customer Service instead - we would need to look into your license problem first, which likely relates to the Spam Service problem. :)
