sallam Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 Hi all Does IP board by fault notify members when a topic they started was moved elsewhere, or when their posts got split into a new topic? Or do we have to use a hook for that? Thanks in advance for any info given.
Jadenn Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 IPB does not notify authors of moved topics, or when split, there is the option to leave a link in the old forum, though.
Makoto Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 http://www.devfuse.com/products/64-moderator-action-alert/ Maybe. There was another older hook that did this with simple notifications, but I can't find it.
Jude Perera Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 is there anyway to move a post into its own topic? like a new topic for someone's post?
Makoto Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Yes. Check the post(s) you want to move to a new topic and select "split".
Jude Perera Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Yes. Check the post(s) you want to move to a new topic and select "split". thats what it does!? I was wondering what it meant but didn't want to test it out on anyone
Makoto Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Yep, you have to confirm the action anyways, so there's no danger in testing it out. Split is basically just the opposite of merge for topics. (Just keep in mind there's no way to undo the action once you actually do split the posts into a new topic.)
Rheddy Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 I've never found a use for this sort of thing. Generally, a member can simply search their own posting history to find their topics or forum posts.
Makoto Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 I generally find leaving a link behind when moving topics suffices. Otherwise, as Megami said.
Dmacleo Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 leaving a link ALONG with a block stating reason for move would be good IMO. using link means they can get to it from where they posted it while reason for move tells why it was moved. wasn't there a hook for 3.1x series that showed the reason or am I thinking of SMF?
