For whatever reason the hook doesn't work on board.

I posted several times in support topic but InvisionHQ never bothered to reply.

Eventually I decided to ask for a refund.

Another "no go" as InvisionHQ doesn't accept any PM messages.

Is my money gone?

You should report the file as broken and let the Marketplace Mods follow up with the author. You'd likely need to talk to IPS if you want a refund.
