Is it worth to write add-ons for 3.4.x?

I know that no certain answer will come from IPS. 4.0 will be ready when it is ready :D

However, all applications and third-party modules will be broken with IPS 4.0

I have to plan my costs right now. Is it worth to develop apps right now and buy apps and skins? What about very very rough time table?

Are there months, years till 4.0? 2013 or definitely not? It would be really helpful... Any guess?

I smell 4.0 already.

You must have a good nose. :D

Probably we won't see 4.0 before the end of this year.

This is what my guess also was. Just wanted to hear your opinions. Even when 4.0 is released I would not go with it till 4.1 or 4.2. And it is another portion of time from 4.0 to 4.1...

Just because 4.0 is released doesn't mean you would need to upgrade to it immediately.

I would venture a guess that we will see 4.0 by the end of the year. Likely sooner based on the full featured blog entries showing new functionality.

If you mean 4.0.1 or 4.0.2, those will likely come in the couple weeks after 4.0. If you truly meant 4.1 or 4.2, we're talking years till you see those major versions... That's like saying you were going to wait for 3.4 when 3.2 came out.

EDIT: pure guess, I know nothing more than you.

Yes. I meant 4.1 at least. I try not to use X.0 versions in production at all and think that those X.0 should become mature first... :D

Looks like I can plan my costs with IPS 3.X and do not fear that I spend a lot money right before a new version is available

I'm looking forward to the update to 4.0 yes it'll be stressful for developers to relearn sections maybe, but it's going to be fun! :P

Also not everyone updates either, so making applications for 3.4 will still be used even though 4.0 will be out. :)
