This mod will give you the ability to display unlimited messages at the board index and/or sidebar to all new users after they will register at your forum. The message will be visible to them for a certain time frame, which can be set by the admin, from the moment they register.

This can come very much in handy to make the new users aware of the various rules that you have in place at your forum.

Installation and Configuration:

To install this application, upload the admin folder inside the Upload folder to the root of your forum folder. Then go to your Admin Panel->Applications & Modules->Manage Applications & Modules and on the right side where it says: Applications Not Installed you will see a new application added called: New USers Message. Click on the install button.

To configure it go to the Other Apps tab then from the drop down list choose New Users Message and it will take you to the management/settings area.

There you can add unlimited messages which will be displayed to the new users after they register at your forum. The message will be visible on all pages at the board index and/or at the sidebar as well and they will be displayed randomly each time the user refreshes the browser the message/s will be displayed to him/her one at the time. It uses the full rich editor that you use in posts and threads so you can use bbcodes, smilies, tags etc. You can also display the users names to personalize it.

You can decide the time frame that the message will be displayed to the new users from the moment that they register at your forum.

You can set the message title and message body.

Several screenshots of the Application are attached below so it will give you a more detailed idea on how it looks like when being used

Hi, I just installed this mod after upgrading to IP.Board 3.4.1 and while the new user message appears, BBCode in the message doesn't seem to get parsed. See the screenshot below:

Do you know what the problem might be?

Thanks.

As you can see from the screenshots I attached the bb code is parsed fine. I would need to have a look at it for myself to see what might cause the issue at your forum. I would need forum admin panel and ftp access for that.

P.s. Does the editor works in posts btw?

I get the same issue.

it is very strange that it was not working fo ryou guys. I could not reproduce the issue. Anyway, I took another approach to that part of the code and upadated the package with the new changes. Please re-download the new package. Then un-install the old one you had installed, re-upload the new application files and re-install the mod again. It should work without any issues. I just re-tested it again and the bb code and smilies appear fine.

Please let me know how it will go for you this time.

Just purchased and installed yesterday. Today I have a bunch of users complaining about fatal errors on the site  This is what's happening and I verified it myself.

When a user accesses the site on a iphone, the forum of course attempts to first serve the mobile skin version. Then, your hook throws this fatal error:

Fatal Error: Call to a member function newusermessges() on a non-object in

/home/<sitename>/public_html/hooks/NewUserMessages_45bf279fd8c2134239840

on line 57

Thats ALL you get on the home page. The site is then unavailable. (Note, it does work on the PC full browser, just not on the mobile)

I had to deactivate the hook/module to make it work.

I am using the standard out of the box IPB skins (both full and mobile), Version 3.4.2

Please advise ASAP,

Thanks

I'm a little reluctant on handing over admin and FTP rights. I'll have to consult with someone to see if we can do this.

Another issue is that the bbcode in the message ( and ) is not rendering on iphone/safari. Same issue as Yuxi above but that was back in January. I assume the download I purchased last night has the latest files.

Let me know if I'm missing a setting somewhere. Thanks.

Thanks for the fast response.

RE: bbcode - Ok, but they don't work fine. They work fine on my PC on Chrome or IE. But they do not work on Safari on the iphone. I'm not able to test on Safari on a mac, so couldn't tell you if its a safari issue generally or just on the iphone.

Can you confirm it has been tested on an iphone and works?
