I just purchased this.

Here are some feature suggestions.

- Add option for users who take the test to add comments, or perhaps a direct link to the topic which is created when a new quiz is released or something. Sometimes users will want to challenge whether a question's answer is correct or not, etc. To prevent spoilers from becoming public, I guess users should only be able to read the comments once they've taken the test...

- I won't mention the "timed quiz" feature because I'm guessing that it's the most requested feature so far. :)

- Subcategories. I think this is important...

- Quiz test report comments. (you know, if you score 10% you add a message "Go back to school mate!". If you score 20%, you get a different one and so on). Makes quizzes a lot more fun.

- Member permissions. Who can create new quizzes, approval system, etc.

- Content block hook (you know, on the right side of the board index) with the latest quiz.

- member20432 hast just achieved the highest score in the xxxquiz type of announcement, perhaps in the content block.

Anyway, it's great to see this project has become a reality in such a short period of time, well done!

Comments is a good idea, but on the quiz itself there is a link to the topic which is created. An example is here: http://offtopichut.com/quiz/1-the-big-bang-theory-quiz/ - under my avatar is the "Support Topic" link. :)

Hehe, yep. It's high up there..

- Member permissions. Who can create new quizzes, approval system, etc.

This is included, go to ACP > Members > Member Groups > Group Name > Quiz System (tab) > Can Add Quiz (or take, or view). Admins / Super Mods can by default approve the quizzes, I'll add that as a setting in future.

Very cool! I agree with all the feature suggestions above and once some of those are implemented, especially the timed quiz feature, I will purchase. I think having an online quiz timed is needed because without a time limit, people are going to Google all the answers.

Please make the time limit PER quiz and also display the time limit on the quiz BEFORE the user presses TAKE QUIZ. Also, can you please create a live countdown timer on the quiz itself so users can see how much time is remaining? I would say make it float so when the user scrolls, the timer scrolls as well but those things aren't friendly on mobile devices so maybe a timer at the top and bottom of the page static.

I'm getting different requests for the timed quiz options.. some people simply want a timer, some people want it so that if the user doesn't complete the quiz in xx seconds then the quiz will time out.. I need to figure that out, but I'm going to attempt to get it implemented in some form or another.

Great looking app, I'm sure I'll purchase this soon.

Is there chance this could be integrated with ibeconomy?

There could be an option for members to pay to take a quiz and depending on how many questions they get correct they are awarded x.

Thanks

The Welsh One

I'll have to find out how I could do that, but I like the idea.

Just purchased and I can add quizzes no problem, however when I go to add a category I get the following. My user account and groups have NO admin CP restrictions in place.

System Error

You do not have permission to access this page

Could you PM me an admin login to your site please? (if you're comfortable doing so). I'll need to see the error to be able to check it out.. I've tested this locally and on a brand new install and I've had no trouble adding categories at all...

I cannot do this due to policy established by our Board of Directors without a non-disclosure agreement, sorry.

That is the error that is displayed to us, no further information.

I will continue to try to reproduce this locally but without access or seeing if it's something specific to your installation, it's hard to do so.

Can you provide further information as to where you're clicking? What is the URL in the address bar after ?adsess=xxxx? Should look like so: index.php?adsess=xxx&app=quiz&module=categories&section=categories&do=add

Is this happening after submitting the form?

Edit: Did you select any image to upload as a Category Image? (that's the only way I can reproduce this)

This application looks like a load of fun, can we add any category we want (and pictures to the category)?

We have a similar policy incorporated by our board of directors, and anyone who is given ACP permission must provide information to what they are going to do in the ACP with either:

1. Video (like screencast) of what changes they make
2. Steps to reproduce the changes they make

It is the only way to keep everyone honest.

No I was not selecting an image, let me try that. So an image is required? If need just have it set a default image if non-selected, probably the best method.

The image is required, yes. I've found where it was falling over in the code (error message was blank, doh!), and have corrected that. I'll see about adding a default image instead.

The Categories you add are limited only by your imagination. Yes, as you can see on http://offtopichut.com/quiz (which serves as a demo), each Category has a Category Image which is displayed beside the Category name in the Quiz overview page, and also on the Show Category page. Feel free to click around my site, and take / add a quiz if you wish. Please note that it's my live forum so a 'real' quiz would be appreciated, if you do test. :)

What I would like to recommend for this thing is more extensive permissions system and better control of peoples quiz results. This way we can use this system more for testing purposes, and being able to log each test result per that user would be great. Permissions to decide which moderators or moderator groups have access to what would be great to.

Ie setting who can view/take the quiz, by member groups, and even having an moderator permission to assign a quiz to a user, if they don't have permission to freely take it. This would make your system much more valuable. As it is after view we are unlikely to keep any renew. If these things become features I think a renew of $15 sounds plenty fine as well.

Thank-you this is fantastic.

If there was a points system of sorts, where after so many completed quiz's the member could join a member group automatically would be a fantastic addition.

I will put this to the board, and I am sure they will approve the purchase of this in the very near future. We will buy this on approval of our board.

Hi Mikey,
great work!

Questions with images would be fine. In my Joomla based site I have these quiz plugin: http://www.tamlyncreative.com/software/products/bf-quiz-plus.html A good feature there is "Conditional branching" - if an user is given answer x he's redirected to question B, if he's given answer y he's redirected to question C. This feature would I like in your quiz system so the Joomla plugin could be disabled ;)

Greetings

Claudia

I have plans for "question types" to be incorporated.. such as picture questions, though it's something I need to think on.

Your "Conditional Branching" idea sounds complex and would definitely require further investigation.. While I could set it so you can set it so "If correct, go to question 9", it gets complicated very quickly.

For both suggestions, I have to take the following into account: As this app is designed for both user AND admin use I can't really justify making it complicated to add a new quiz.. if I did incorporate something like this, and that's a big if, it'd have to be admin only..

I'm holding off for the timed quiz, otherwise, this will merely be a googlefest with everyone getting everything right. The way to do it is to allow the admin to set the amount of time then once it counts down to zero quiz is over and the user is locked out and given a score based on what they've answered. Once again, if you don't do it that way then people can go to google once they memorize the quiz questions and take it over and over thus taking the competition out of it.

I'd just like to say one thing here: if people really want to cheat, it doesn't really matter how you design the quiz maker or how many extra features you add, it will just make it a little bit more dificult, but not that much.
A timed quiz (which most of users have already requested and we all agree that it's a good idea and it will be implemented soon) is not going to prevent that. There are many different ways to cheat, the easiest one being that a user could create a fake account on your forum and take the test twice or even more times if he creates more accounts, someone could publish the answers on his twitter account, someone could work with a friend googling the answers, etc. etc.
The only way you can really prevent someone from cheating is by taking a real test live in a classroom, and even then it's not guaranteed, particularly in this age of nano-technology! :)

I think the quiz is being designed with an emphasis on the "fun" side of quiz. Whether this quiz app will one day become more of a "test maker" app, only time will tell.

You have hit the nail on the head here. While I'll be implementing some form of timer in a future release, nothing is cheat proof. The questions and answers order is already randomised, and when a timer is added, that is probably all I shall be doing to limit the cheats. As noted, this is focussing more on the fun side.

Sure they can cheat but by adding a timer you put everyone on common ground. If I have 3 minutes to answer the questions and you do too it's both our business what we do with those 3 minutes. If you want to spend them crawling google for answers so be it but in most cases you and I both know if you know the answers you're likely to finish a 20 question quiz much faster than if you have to crawl the internet for them. If they can then great but adjustments can be made time wise to prevent that from being possible. A timer will reward those who truly know the answers. Keeps an honest man honest...
