jackflash Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 I've noticed that on all of my sites that use Facebook Connect, we've received hundreds of new accounts registering recently. None of them have profile information or typical e-mail addresses - rather something like "@1336658188." Also, most of them seem to become from 5-6 different IP addresses. They have been registering since late April, however, no posts from any account has yet to have been made. Edit: one account has 700 new registrants via Facebook. Dozens each day.
Michael Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 If you allow Facebook Connect, then there's nothing stopping anyone with a Facebook account from using it to register. You could always ban those IP addresses if you suspect they're up to something.
jackflash Posted June 4, 2012 Author Posted June 4, 2012 Correct. I think that they are getting through via some auto registration though because there are fields that are required and they are not being completed. Also, on one site, over 700 have registered....minute after minute.
TracyIsland Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 auto registration ??? Yikes!!! We need to get to the bottom of this. Doesn't Facebook Connect interact with IPS' captcha?
jackflash Posted June 4, 2012 Author Posted June 4, 2012 Don't know - but they are not filling out the required profile info. when creating an account and this is across different servers and different sites, which are not connected at all.
Rimi Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 ??? Yikes!!! We need to get to the bottom of this. Doesn't Facebook Connect interact with IPS' captcha?Pretty sure it doesn't. There's some kind of rule for Connect that says you can't have additional verification steps.
Alfa1 Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 Bad-Behavior would block this. Is Bad-Behavior available for IPS?
jackflash Posted June 6, 2012 Author Posted June 6, 2012 I just turned off this Facebook connect stuff. Weeded through my facebook member group and moved them to my members group after sending them an e-mail. Problem solved.
