Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt November 11, 2024
Afrodude Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 You know the post number beside the posts? The one you'll only pretty much ever use for sharing the post with others? Why does it no longer bring up a popup with the URL for easy copying? Here's the link thing i mean: It makes no sense to simply load the page again, starting with that topic. Why can't it bring up the URL in an easy to copy format like its done before?
Aiwa Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 Why not just right click, Copy shortcut instead of reloading the page?http://community.invisionpower.com/tracker/issue-36606-link-to-post/page__gopid__139369#entry139369
Afrodude Posted April 16, 2012 Author Posted April 16, 2012 It makes no sense this way. Do you honestly think a newcomer to the world of bulletin boards will do this? Things on the web are usually not like this, i don't know why IPS would think any differently?
Aiwa Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 A newcomer to the world of bulletin boards probably won't have a clue what that is anyway.. I, personally, like it w/o the popup... One less thing for you to have to close, and one less JS function to slow down page loads...
MikeHolly Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 Must admit that was a nice feature, only just noticed it was missing on v3.3.1
Afrodude Posted April 16, 2012 Author Posted April 16, 2012 I've just been told this was for SEO purposes. Surely its easy to do this: If JS enabled > Use popup If JS disabled > Use URL. Solves both problems.
Rimi Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 I used this feature all the time and noticed it immediately. I made a feedback topic on it and Matt posted in it but I guess he thought it wasn't worth it. So don't get your hopes up.
Afrodude Posted April 19, 2012 Author Posted April 19, 2012 At the moment the link is practically pointless in its current form, as there is no indication it can be used to share the post, in fact it seems broken to the end user as it simply loads the topic from that post. I fail to understand how it isn't worth doing something like i suggested?
