Before i buy ip.content

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Im thinking of buying ip.content. Am i right in thinking the following..
Matt

[*]I install the board first and then install ip.content. Then i can have it so when people load my site it goes to a portal that i can create in ip.content and NOT the forum homepage? [*]Would i install the forum at domain.com and then install ip.content or would i install it at domain.com/forum and install ip,content in domain.com?

You install both the board and content at the same time or IP Content after the board. The arrival page is not determined by the order you install things. Check out my site (link in my signature). The arrival page is an IP Content created portal. I've listed elsewhere the steps to make this the arrival page. It's pretty easy to do.

You install the forum at mydomain.com/forums/

IP Content gets installed in the same place as the forums.

Have fun.

I suggest getting the free Firefox plugin called "Firebug". With that you can easily find the css to change. What's cool is you can test changing the page css and observe the result. The actual css code on your site isn't changed, it's all done in the browser. Once you've figured out the css to change and by how much you can edit the actual skin css files in the forum ACP.

Hi,

Before i click buy, could somebody just pop over to macrumors.com and tell me if i could replicate that in ip.content as my main page? I don't want all the advert rubbish but just the ip.content main page with full width boxes with fresh news. I would want it where i have a News forum in my main forum and anything i put in there (when there is fresh news) would then go onto the top box and then the one that was there previously , move down to the next box lower. I would want 5 boxes or so, so every time a new post is done it moves to the top box and pushes the older ones down until they are gone. Also would want a "Older News" icon at the bottom so you could then go to the older stuff that has been pushed off.

Am i making sense? lol

Matt

You can create feed blocks with 1 to n items and with an offset. So you could create first block with length 1 offset 0 and then next block with length 4 offset 1. Or if you really need 4 separate boxes (versus just formatting each article to look like a box) you could do each with length 1 offset n.

It is not complicated to create the news blocks you are describing. All you have to do is create a feed block on the blocks page. Pull from the forums app, pull topics, and then in the filters you select which forum is your news forum. You would pull 5 or 10 topics, and then you would update the template when you get to that step to look how you want. This would ultimately pull the latest 5 or 10 news topics to your index page. This is really quite simple once you try it out.
