Instead, it comes with three .xml language modules. If I copy those, it is my understanding that the English language pack will be overwritten. That language pack is not a "single-file" language pack, it's a collection of Language Modules, that's why it overwrote English. Our only option to repair that is to revert the entire English pack, but that would remove any customizations, yes. Your best bet at this point is to do a full restore, then find a language pack that is a single xxxxx.xml.gz file, not a collection of language modules, and import that.
